Combine offices...less overhead and more productivity in a day......1/2 hr lunch.....private sector has it right....
40 hr at the end of the week..1/2 hr lunches....no 37 1/2 hr wk....and one hr for lunch.....get more done...and it
doesn't become a country club atmosphere....get paid for a honest day's work.......hard work never killed
anyone....then you see how unlikely most positions would be filled....by favors....more qualified hires...

Like that's gonna happen! The first elected officials that proposes those changes will have donated cameras placed in their offices, their names slandered all over, back stabbing, law suits and mud slinging.

According to state law, the offices could only be combined by action of the Town Board -- sometime in between January 1, 2013 and late Spring 2013 -- effective January 1, 2014.    That is because an elective office holders office can not be abolished DURING the current term -- Receiver of Taxes current term ends on December 31, 2013.

Did you notice the entrenched members of the political ruling class (who have recently floated the idea of suspending elections) always point to the "state law" or the "federal law" in order to AVOID eliminating wasteful spending!

Last night these people at the forum listened to all the bull. Finally the lady said- "Now they are blaming Del Gallo, next year once they are rid of him, who will they blame then?"

With 14 out of 15 seats on the county and 5 out of 5 on the town, they keep saying

"If you elect us we will do this and do that...but we need to work together!"

They need a constant boogie man and someone else to blame, all the time. It almost sounds like "Throw out one more Republican and we promise to make it better!"

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

So......are you for or against making the clerks office a non-elected office?

And ya wonder why people become apathetic towards the whole process.

the Town Clerk is an elective office .. because the state law requires that .. the town can not abolish the Town Clerk's Office.

If Rotterdam did not have an elected Receiver of Taxes, the duties of that office would devolve to the Town Clerk  ... according to state law.

A quick search found this.

Town Clerks
State statute requires that all towns have a town clerk, either elected or appointed. The
town clerk has a two year term, whether elected or appointed, unless changed to four
locally. The town can change the clerk from an appointive office to elective by
resolution subject to permissive referendum, but to change from elective to appointive
would require a local law subject to mandatory referendum.
Prior to 1974, the office
could be made appointive by resolution subject to permissive referendum, but that
provision of Town Law was repealed. The town clerk has custody of all the records and
papers of the town, accepts all filings required by law, and generally serves as the
records access officer for purposes of the Freedom of Information Law. The clerk
attends all town board meetings and acts as the secretary of the town board, keeping a
record of all proceedings.

What an excuse DM would have  for poking into other's business and then using it to her advantage....this is a TRUSTED position and that trust is for Town Clerk to respect that word....and confidentiality....
The qualification for this position is not who someone is, or who they know......someone that will have accountability and ability to be unbiased.....and not politically motivated with their own personal agenda....riasing one's hand to tell the truth doesn't absolutely mean they will......but then who does these days in Rottendam

THIS has been a Democratic Seat for 60 years and everyone knows it shall REMAIN one. It is Eunice's seat and she would not endorse or condone anyone but Diane Marco who is the jewel of Rotterdam ----occupying it.

the Office of Town Clerk  may be appointive or elected -- but the Office of Town Clerk itself can NOT be abolished

also -- did you know that state law allows a town to have a town board of 3 members, 5 members or 7 members  ??????      In theory, we could drop two seats and save some money -- but I am not suggesting that.

Personally, I would prefer to elect our town board members from single-member districts -- so that every part of the town would have representation on the board ....  but I am not sure that state law would allow us to  do that.
