The programs Ron is referring to are probably:

The Farmer's Market - The town wouldn't open the senior center for bathroom facilities so the organizers (Hamburg St. Merchants) had to rent portapotties.

The Monday Night Summer Concert Series - Started many moons ago, and thrives due to volunteers from the Music Union, and local groups not involved in politics.

St Adalbert's Events - not aided or sponsored by the town administration in any way.

As you can see, the town administration is really jumping through hoops to help with events at the "defacto Town community center."

What the hell is your problem ???   There are quite a number of events at the Senior Center ...
and not all are for seniors.    Many people .. including the town administration .. are working
together to BUILD UP their community .... you folks spend your time TEARING it down.

BTW -- every member of the Town Board supported the Saint Adalbert's events  EXCEPT for the
lone GOPer on the board.
Instead of bitching and moaning about how horrible you think Rotterdam is ... get off your fat, lazy
asses and start making contributing something more than your hate-filled comments.

Ron, supporting doesn't mean buying a $5 ticket.

I challenge you to name some events that take place at the senior center that aren't senior related, that the town organizes.  I think several people have asked that of you, and you've dodged it.  There are none.

You stated there are "quite a few..." and they are "...not all for seniors."

Name some.

Once again for those of you who missed it...the town needs to plan NOW to make Rotterdam a livable community for the up and coming senior population.  Young seniors need a resource like the Mathers Cafe that really encourages a neighborhood atmosphere for seniors while aging well.  Folks go hang out (not at the Elks but the cafe) and can take advantage of programming whether it's exercise or a language class or yoga etc.

The boomers are a sandwiched group of folks.  Many are still taking care of parents and also taking care of grandchildren.  Without a director/Town who is totally devoted to creating a new atmosphere you will have the same old.  I could rattle off a number of programs that would turn that situation around but frankly, Schenectady ie Rotterdam is not interested or commited to a senior population that wants to age in place.

THAT is an oxymoron.....every generation is a 'sandwiched group'.....oh please.....the only reason they take care of their grand kids is because they are reaping what they have sown
in the 60's...but EVERY generation is between......

so you want to make Rotterdam a giant nursing home???? here's an idea...plant some real foundation and class and style and then we will attract the tax base needed to support
them...........honestly.....THE FUTURE IS COMING and no one is more equal than the other no matter their age........

Name one thing you do to make the town a better place to live .... and I don't mean when you choose
to occasionally leave the town --- which certainly improves the a tremendous amount.

As for the wise-a** crack about the politicians who attended my parish's events --
I know for a fact that most of them spent a LOT more than $5.     I could list the ones who bought
$50 or $100 worth of raffle tickets just at the booth that I ran for a number of years.

Mayor Stratton VOLUNTEERED 2 to 3 hours of his time serving meals at our Harvest Festival for many
years -- he started when he was a City Councilman and continued the practice all the years the event
was held at our parish center.

Former City Councilmembers  Mark Blanchfield, Barbara Strangefeld, and Kathy Lewis  ALWAYS
attended EVERY event at our parish.

Frank Del Gallo and Bob Godlewski have been at parish events.    Judy Dagostino and Dom Dagostino, too.  Paul Tonko and Mike McNulty, as well.     I should note that Jim Tedisco and Jim Buhrmaster
are also regularattendees.
Matt Martin has too --- in fact he is very much loved by the women of our parish --- they all want to
adopt him as their son.

The only politician that I can say for certain has NEVER been to one of our events ...  I  won't mention
names ... but he has been in office way too long and likes to travel to Disneyworld and Hawaii as long
as the taxpayers are paying for it.

Nope - the   "Harvest of Gold - Annual Parish Raffle"  -  brings in more money than the food  .. pays
out $2,000 in prizes.

I'm not saying that being elder removes the wants of doing what one did 20, 30, or even 40 years prior.....but,,,,it's what happens.....and....it
doesn't get better......the boomers slogan was to never get old.....what happened?????

Just because one resident doesn't feel the need  .. or thinks it is just a frivolous want on the other
person's part ... DOES NOT mean that it is not a REAL NEED to other residents.

Apparently now we use how much a person shows up and spends at church events as a gold standard? How does that fit with your scripture, DVOR?

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
