I wonder how much $$$grease it took......

Anyone who doesn't think that this decision was AT LEAST partially political isn't looking hard enough...

Rensselaer County had two entries, but that county is a republican strong hold and is the home of Joe Bruno
Schoharie County had one entry and is predominantly a republican county.
Schenectady County had one entry is predominantly a democratic county.

Members of the Casino Board are Cuomo hacks... when you add it up, we should have known all along.

Well, think of it this way...

Even if this casino is only mildly successful, at least you'll get a influx of higher quality drugs and hookers.

Schenectady - behind the times.  Casino gambling has been declining around the country for years.  The only way this would be a game changer in Schenectady is if there was a sport book inside.  I believe casino sports gambling is not allowed in NY.  All gambling can be done on-line.  The millenials will gamble online.  There will be a short term bump in economic activity, but once it levels out, the cost for the city to support it will exceed the overall economic benefit.  Why?  Because once the city see's the revenue increase, every city employee union will jack their pay and suck up all the revenue.  It will never result in lower taxes.

There are lots of places in Schenectady already to bet on sports or to play texas hold'em.

Good hold'em dealers make over $300 a night in tips on a decent night at the freelance(non government sanctioned) games.

That's because your idea of equal rights is all about you!
You believe your equal rights are more important, and
as long as it benefits you regardless of the impact on others, so be it...that's why!
Didn't read anywhere that Libertarians are so one way...all about your rights and okay
to trample on others.

And let's not forget the kickbacks - Galesi giving money to the political party that awarded him the casino on his tax exempt property, a property that has no end date for the examption

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Box I totally agree with you. It can't get worse and if Schenectady residents are hired and if it lowers our taxes I'm all for it.
Only will occur and believed a positive if guaranteed in writing on these 2 points.   But since pols always keep their word nothing to worry about.   And will taxes be lowered leading up to the offered tax reduction some 2-3 years away?   Or will they be raised over the next 2-3 years then lowered back down over a higher tax rate 2-3 years from now.

Exactly!!

We have talked to 'at least' 5 folks today who live in the county....and come springtime, there homes are going up for sale. however, they fear they are too late. they think that the casino will make home values go down. HOWEVER.....we have also talked to folks who are saying their property values just doubled. so who the hell knows ....that's to be seen.
One thing is for sure....the construction industry will see a major BOOM!!!!

It is what it is folks.........Schenectady is now a run-a-way train....agree with the direction it's going in or not.....no sense bit@hing about it anymore.........it is what it is and will be for decades to come.

More Union jobs whose members traditionally vote democratic.

Casinos dont only employ house keeping and blackjack dealers

Security are ex military, retired cops. A paramedic team is on call 24 7.

Facilities/maintanence  knowledge of construcion trades

Hospitality managment that is probably graduating from SCC

Sure the valet wont be like vegas but even vegas isnt like vegas

people that are retired can supplement thir incom. Young people in assist managment can spring board to other gaming propertie.

Slot techicians are in demand everywhere

Maybe the local bakeries will suppy some  bread for the steakhouse  ( there is always a steakhouse )

And dont forget the IT department and survalience.

Casinos always hire local- thats part of the deal . Sure  their managment form other properties will get it set up
Yes it's true there is a paramedic staff on call 24/7.   You would'nt want the seniors to pass on too early, not before they have lost all their $$$.   In fact your chances of surviving a heart attack at a casinoi is greater than if you had one at a fast food restaurant.

Really, trample on the rights of corporations to have government sanctioned rights that regular people can't have.

I'm such a selfish person.

Demanding equal rights for all is selfish.

Your IQ just dropped below 15.
