Great News For Schdy!!!
I'm sure this will be greeted with "boos" but just about every bit of news in Shdy is is 'bad news'.
What about the increase in CRIME?  Um... every post on this board is about CRIME in Schdy... so it can't get much worse!
What about JOBS?  This would appear to be a golden opportunity for Schdy leaders  to get ahead of the game and make sure that those
jobs in Schdy, GO TO SCHDY RESIDENTS!

Box I totally agree with you. It can't get worse and if Schenectady residents are hired and if it lowers our taxes I'm all for it.

Give me one example of a SINGLE casino having a positive effect on the ENTIRE community? ENTIRE meaning neighborhoods, tax base, schools. etc.
Or..
is this just like the rest of the downtown projects...where the only ones that benefit are the developers, owners, and the out of town patrons?

Cheer cheer  Rah rah for higher tax bills.

If the whole property winds up being assessed for $500 million, then the total tax bill for Schenectady city residents will INCREASE by at least $1,000 a year.

The property is owned by Galesi.   DV may have said by evidence is a "bunch of crap" so obviously he does not have the intelligence to distinguish between official records and fiction.  But it is from the official government records of the county and the city, the property is tax exempt with no end date.

Based on the current total tax rate of about $43 per thousand, the roughly 20,000 properties in the city will need to provide more than $1,000 each year to cover the tax bill on a property assessed for $500 million.  The exact impact will depend on the assessed value of the houses in the city.  Remember, the current leadership in the city does NOT have people pay taxes based on the value of their houses, rather they use outdated "assessment values" which have no bearing whatsoever to the value of houses in the city.

Here is a question for you.  If you own a house and you have a garage that is falling apart, unsightly, or maybe you want more yard space.   You are going to have the garage demolished.   Demolishing a garage on your property -- who has the responsibility to pay for the demolition of the garage?   Can anyone tell me the answer?   Is it the financial responsibility of your neighbor to pay for the demo of your garage?  Or is it YOU as the homeowner?

So, the DSS building is to be demolished.  Is it the financial responsibility of the property owner to pay for the demolition?

Naturally, if YOU are responsible for paying for the demolition of a structure on YOUR PRIVATE property, then the owner of the DSS property has the responsibility to pay for the demolition of that building on that owner's PRIVATE PROPERTY.   The old DSS building is the PRIVATE PROPERTY of the BILLIONAIRE Galesi.  So WHY does he not have to pay for the demolition?   Yes, there is a point to be made here.

Dems exempt billionaire Galesi from paying taxes
Dems exempt Galesi from paying for the demolition of a structure on Galesi's PRIVATE PROPERTY
Dems enable Galesi to get richer by giving him the casino.
Galesi gives kickback to the dems
The dems reward Galesi with the ability to get even richer.

And the people of the city will see a drastic increase in their taxes and there will be more tax foreclosures in the city.

I'm not necessarily against a casino in the city, but the taxpayers should NEVER be forced--under threat of having their homes seized-- to pay the property and school taxes of a billionaire's property

Doubt you will see improvement in taxes. Might spur some additional development
and create more jobs...maybe.

No way you see tax reduction...All the development will hinge of the success of the Casino. It should do well the first few years because it will be a shiny new penny, the question is what happens after? Will there be enough geezer gliders and people who shouldn't be there anyway to prop it up?

This is huge -- one good piece of news after another -- starts a snow-ball effect of investment and new development.  This has been the wisdom behind Ray Gillen's and Metroplex's success in the past decade ---- and now it has paid off big time -- the river front project with the casino will create even more interest in Schenectady.  And -- don't forget that 2nd track, new train station and high speed rail to NYC -- are coming down the road.
The City-County of Schenectady's future is BRIGHTER than ever.

The RENAISSANCE continues.

What percent of people in the city live in poverty?

Population is about 60,000

I think I heard about 800 full time jobs.  Do the math, for sure it's not going to help much.  A few hundred more part time jobs.  Mostly low paying jobs, will still be on public assistance, still be in poverty.

when are my property taxes going to go down, or even stabilize?
When am I not going to be living in one of the highest property tax-rate counties in the Country?

My answer? Probably not until I move out of the county.

It is what it is, agree with it or not. 800 jobs + part time jobs is more than what there is now.
Time to look at and try to promote the positive benefits. Other businesses will be looking
at this as a possibility for expansion or creation. Proposal included a Hotel and Steak House too,
so those are pluses, right. All he negative anything at this point is pointless.  IT'S DONE DEAL!!!! LIVE WITH IT!
Find a way to take advantage of it for your own purpose if possible.  If after it's done, people still
have nasty taste in their mouth, then simple...AVOID THE PLACE AND IGNORE ITS EXISTENCE.

Not sure, but maybe I qualify as GEEZER GLIDER...but I might go to the Steak House and take advantage
of any entertainment venue they may have...but that's only way they get my GEEZER GLIDER money...
not going to leave any on their tables/in their slots.

GEEZER GLIDER over and out!!!!

You keep promising that you are leaving.  Then, you disappoint everyone by staying around.
