A multi-generational senior center is an oxymoron. Not surprised that Albany, which has learned nothing from the library debacle, would proposes such nonsense. They are in a race to the bottom with Schenectady. But Albany has more elected REPS! The taxpayers have had enough of these public job programs.

Many of these liberal programs can not be sustained any longer! Even the liberals are beginning to realize this. The 'smart' liberals that is!

Ron reminds me of people who, although in debt for triple their net worth, go out and buy a 45 foot speed boat or build a built in pool in their back yard simply because "they can't afford not to..."

It makes perfect sense (to someone incompetent in matters of self-sufficiency.)

Yes BT you understood my post correctly last evening.  Benny snap out of it.  I am speaking about an intergenerational CENTER.  That is the most effective use of taxpayrs money--serving the elderly and youth.  No race with Albany Benny.  Race is over Schenectady won--they are rock bottom.

Rotterdam Senior Center cameras debated

Donated security devices prompt worker outrage, Del Gallo mulls legality

Eight security cameras that were donated to the Rotterdam Senior Center by a resident might be taken down after complaints from workers.

The focus was back on the Rotterdam Senior Center at the Wednesday, May 25, Town Board meeting after Supervisor Frank Del Gallo said he is looking into the legality of having the video cameras at the center. Some seniors said the added security feature, donated and installed by resident Todd Koza, gives them peace of mind, but some center workers have complained to Del Gallo that they feel their privacy is being violated...........................>>>>.......................................>>>>...............................http://www.spotlightnews.com/n.....;utm_medium=facebook

Was this actually remarked on at the TB meeting?  I mean, if he wanted to know the legality of them, there is that guy sitting to his right that gets paid enough to tell people what's legal and what isn't, and he gets paid to be the town's lawyer, so couldn't the question be answered right then and there?  Maybe he's regressing into what this town board started out with, that you have to ask the questions and give them quite a while to get you an answer.  Nothing can be answered as soon as it's asked.

During privilege of the floor for public comment -- all questions and remarks are addressed to the the person chairing the meeting  .. in this case the Town Supervisor.    At no time DURING THE MEETING did the Supervisor ask the Town Attorney for his legal opinion on the subject -- and it really wasn't up to the Town Attorney to interrupt the meeting and publicly offer his opinion.

The Boys & Girls Club building -- which is on town owned land is technically the town's youth center.  The building was built shortly after World War 2 with surplus military materials.   The building needs to be either rehabilitated or replaced.

The Senior Center is in a  plus or minus 100 year old school building with very limited handicapped accessibilityand other shortcomings.

Our poll of town residents showed that residents supported building a new multi-generational community centerby about the same margin as they supported developing a new passive use town park.

Since the town and state already own the land needed for the park  and  MOST of the cost of developing the passive use town park will be DONATED  -- state and federal law allows the town to use the value of the donation as the town's match for state and federal grants.    We will apply for state and federal grants along with additional private grants and donations to cover the items not donated to develop Bicentennial Park    AND  to build a multi-generational community center.

The fact is that the town parks and recreation program does NOT owe any money on its existing park system  --- as the bald-faced sniveling liar who posted the accusation contends.

The fact is that the town is not going to go into debt to develop the park and the multi-generational community center  as the  slithering "truth-impaired" weasel has wrongly suggested.

The fact is that the parks and recreation commission plan quite clearly states -- elements of the plan will only be implemented as the funds to pay for them become available.

The critics of the proposal must be following Hitler's advice about telling big lies --- because they keep repeating the lies over and over again --- and like their spiritual leader believe that if they tell the lie often enough people will actually believe their rubbish.

Ron, where are these poll numbers coming from, and what size sample did you use for the vote?  Rotterdam has somewhere in the ballpark (excuse the pun) of 29,000 to 30,000 people.  How many people were asked?  How many replied?  What are the parties of the people who were asked?  What are the ages of the people who were asked?  Was it families? If it was families, was each one who was questioned counted the number of times of the people in the family or once?  If people really asked for it, who is it that is asking for it?  Is it people who will use it long term?

I'm not trying to be a NNN, I just want information.

The survey was taken by an independent polling operation -- not by myself --  the results are in the report that was given to the Town Board over a year ago -- it should be on file in the Town Clerk's office .. at least that is where I sent it .. copies were also given to all of the Town Board members.

It was a scientific poll .. and a few hundred people were polled  -- they did not ask party affiliation .. it was across all age groups.

The fact is that  the senior center and the teen center are in bad shape -- there is an opportunity to replace BOTH  and get a new passive park built on that 78 acres of land that the town acquired to build a park on 16 years ago -- and there is an opportunity to do BOTH projects in such a way as to make maximum use of private donations and  state and federal grants  ..... thus the cost to town taxpayers would be zilch.  I believe it is an opportunity that we can not afford to pass up.

"Marco said only four people had complained about the cameras, with two being workers and two residents using the facility."

So dumb and dumber call the security cameras harrassment?  Send your used dictionaries to 2639 Hamburg Street, Attn:  Dumb and
dumber.  Make sure that when you do you highlight the word harrassment.

It was my understanding that the cameras haven't even been activated yet - let alone monitored.

What exactly is "harassing" about having something mounted to a wall, unless of course there's something to hide?

Dumb and dumber is right. FDG wasn't sure if the complaints were about harassment. He admitted he'd have to call them to ask. You have a private citizen donating cameras and FDG/Bob God are cooking up phony privacy concerns. It's great for his business but at the Senior Center someone might be spotted taking a doggie bag. This is the biggest comedy show on TV-18. Surpassing the all DEM morons in City Hall and Judy DAG at the County. Bring on the intergenerational center for these morons to run!

Here's an idea.......let the rotterdam senior gossip center run on 'donations' only! Let's see how many rotterdamians really want this senior gossip center to continue and are willing to support it. Oh perhaps the town could throw a $5,000 stipend at it yearly.Other than that, let the rotterdamains decide.

The donations will tell the 'true facts' if a senior gossip center is needed and wanted or not!

Surveillance good idea at Rotterdam Senior Center

Well, what’s going on at the Rotterdam Senior Center now? As if switching jobs around and firing [project coordinator] Diane Marco was not enough, [secretary] Molly Collins was also let go. Now there is a snag about putting cameras around the building.
I, for one, think it is a good idea — not only for the protection of people who go there every day but for the protection of the employees.
The only problem here seems to be that someone does not want cameras in the kitchen. Why not? That is one place that should be watched to make sure all necessary health precautions are practiced in the preparation and serving of food. I can’t imagine anyone objecting to this.
Cameras are just about everyplace we go these days; I don’t see what the problem could be. First of all, they promote employee and guest safety. There is also a possibility that they could decrease insurance rates and protect taxpayers’ assets.
