Are yo people nuts?  Didn't fdg just put in a new Kitchen?  Yes.  Turn the center into an intergenerational center--that will work for everyone.  Why doj']t you folks stop working harder and start working smarter.

The tax payers paid for the Senior Center Auditorium kitchen just because he transferred his salary it was
still the tax payers money FDG doesn't dig in his own pocket unless he really has to and everybody knows
it!!!

Took the words right out of my past posts!!!

The salary was his to take. He didn't. He just transferred it to the senior gossip center's budget. So he didn't have to pay any taxes on it....hence....the taxpayer's paid for the kitchen.

Dumb as a fox!!

If he received a 'paycheck', cashed it, deposited it into his personal account, then wrote out a check to the senior gossip center............he must claim it on his income tax and can then can also claim the deduction.

If he didn't..........

Mr. Del Gallo and a bunch of people donated time, effort and money to the new kitchen  --- the fact that you folks are criticizing him for that . just proves you are bunch of horses' asses.

I dont care what they PERSONALLY donated...either their salary or otherwise....I just say---get off my back and fund it personally....if you or I
should choose to paint/cook/clean etc then so be it...but to support it via tax IS WRONG.....get it!...do what you think you need to do and fill your
self...but , get off my back....I will do what I think I need to do.....GET IT!

Fortunately, more people support having a town-operated senior center -- and happen to think that tax payer  support for such programs is RIGHT.

I'm not criticizing fdg. I just question if he used his town salary for the donation since he said he wasn't going to accept it.So if he 'personally' donated the $$$$......then he clearly received it and should pay income tax on it and then claim it as a charitable deduction........k?

If not.......then the taxpayers paid for it.......k?

Someone didn't have their Wheaties this morning. It was a sound financial move. If he claimed the salary on his income taxes, it would be subjected to state and federal income taxes and the town would ONLY benefit the NET difference.  Are you really complaining because he didn't write a check to the Town for 10k AND a check out for taxes on top of that?

Who cares what he used.  I don't care if he stole it.  You all are missing the point.  Your senior center has no validity anymore.  Younger seniors aren't going there--just the opposite.  This week I was invited to speak at a roundtable meeting with Senators Vaesky and Golden.  If the Dept. of Aging aka NYSOFA gets gobbled up by the Dept. of Health because the SAGE Commission makes that recommendation your center is out.  Why you ask-- because you don't do any of the things that help seniors age in place.  Nobody is even making any home visits.

I agree that the younger seniors will not be gracing the senior center. Hell, they don't even think they are seniors!!

However, rotterdam's senior gossip center was never created to make 'home visits'. It was and continues to be rotterdam's bingo hall, trip planner, blood pressure taker with painting classes and card games. Home visits are available through allnursing homes, The Eddy and private agencies also offer home visits by either cna's, hha's, lpn's and rn's.

The rotterdam senior gossip center is just that........a senior gossip center and should be closed. imho

Basically, you are tilting at windmills and blowing a lot of hot air out of your butt ---  Mr. DelGallo could have collected his salary and spent it at the race track or wherever he wanted .. instead he was generous enough to let the funds be used to help pay for the new kitchen.   I am sure that it was done all legal and proper.

So basically ..  quit your whining .. and find a real issue to pursue ... better yet  .. if you and the other whiners  could donate some time to help your community ..  work to BUILD UP your community .. quit tearing your community down and tearing down  good people who are working to make the place better.

BT--it was never in place before because no better ared.  Wrong about nursing homes--they aren't visiting the sick.  EVERY senior center in the capital District has someone who makes home visits to the frainl elderly and Rotterdam did it as well when Riitano was there.

DVR you are such a fan of Rotterdam do something for the seniors.  After this 75 - 85 yr. old group fades into the sunset--nobody is going to be coming to that center unless you begin to do what is necessary to help seniors age in place.  Rotterdam is looking at the next highest area for seniors to reside.

BT you don't seem to understand what the director should be doing--trips is a small amount of what needs to happen.  What about those seniors who cannot afford or are too frail to make a trip  What else have yo got for them.

Tht's why you need an educated person who gets what needs to happen.  The senior center started going down hill under Tommasone and has continued.  Rotterdam is NEVER at the table that is dealing with aging concerns.
