Right-To-Die Bill Passes In California
Quoted Text
The "death with dignity" movement marked a victory in California Friday when the state Senate passed a bill allowing terminally ill patients to end their own lives with the help of a physician.
The End of Life Option Act, which passed in the state Assembly Wednesday, would allow patients to seek aid-in-dying options so long as they are given six months or less to live by two doctors, submit a written request and two oral requests at least 15 days apart and possess the mental capacity to make their own health care decisions.

this yet still amazes me that there is still a discussion about dying. for decades Hospice has been the ANGLE OF DEATH for folks. MOREPHINE is their choice of drugs to be administered to folks that are 'technically dying'. Just happened to a family friend last week. It only took Hospice w/MOREPHINE.....1 week....but it was a SUCCESS..........DEAD!! Never needed a law before. |

In order to enter Hospice care you need TWO physicians to certify that your life expectancy is less than six months. As far as Morphine being the drug of choice, I have seen the pain bleed through it, using the maximum dosage before OD. Drugs like Dilaudid are next up.
There is fine balance between pain management and cognitive function.. The Hospice folks are best at finding that balance because frankly, they have most experience with it.
Hospice is not always about inducing death, in fact, that is a minority instance. Many people poo poo Hospice until either they or a close family member uses it... then the attitude usually changes.
It's real easy to judge from a distance... |

my point is............HOSPICE already handles the 'dying with dignity' thing..........and have for decades. I just don't know why there needs to be a law now. oh and I assure you that my opinion comes from being 'up close and personal'..... MANY TIMES........not from a distance. BOTTOM LINE..........HOSPICE GETS THE JOB DONE! and it's not being insensitive....the subject is up for discussion all over the media now....folks wanna die.....and HOSPICE can make it happen.....and ALWAYS did......FACT! |

Bumbler, You've posted some pretty dumb posts... but this one beats them all. You really have no idea, and I doubt words could ever make you understand. Pathetic. |

How does Hospice make it happen you bumbling IDIOT! You are really making a lot of dumb comments lately. Which Bumbler are you...not the one that normally posts. Hospice was involved with my Mom at the nursing home from day one that she entered...she wasn't dying and they didn't make her death happen. She spent several years there and hospice insured that her needs were being met and she was being treated professionally and with dignity. On her death bed it was the nursing team at the home that gave her morphine to ease her passing as directed by the attending physician! |

Would an unassisted suicide still be illegal?
Quoted Text
United States: In the past, many states had laws that regarded the act of suicide as a felony, but these laws were seldom enforced. In the 1980s, 30 out of 50 United States has no laws opposing suicide or attempting suicide. With that said, all 50 states had laws stating that assisted suicide is a felony. Currently there is no law against the act of committing suicide in the United States.
In some cases though, suicide is considered “common law crime” unless the victim can be proven to have been of “unsound mind.” Most lawsuits regarding suicide happen when the person is under supervision of a jail or hospital and the victim’s family sues these institutions for negligence. Physician-assisted suicide for terminally ill is legal in Oregon and Washington.
In cases of physician-assisted suicide, the patient must have less than 6 months to live, be of sound mind, make a request vocally and on paper, have it approved by multiple physicians, and then wait 15 days, followed by another request. In the state of California, all medical facilities are required to send all suicidal people in for evaluation and treatment.

If you are saying that hospice KILLED HER WITH MORPHINE, then you are full of $hit. Hospice offered palliative care to ease pain. Morphine doesn't "cure' all types of pain and in some cases it just makes the pain worse. |
