We actually do quite a bit with the videos Akshai flags, just not in terms of complex communications products. Here’s what he does —  Building The Trump File In Spanish: Akshai has built the research file that will remind Hispanics in 2016 and beyond of the Summer of Trump. Not deploying it during the primary was strategic, as these are some of the best possible punches.

Why waste them on a diluted field. This narrative is strong if for the story we walk reporter through the making an oppo video, the moment we’ve been waiting for when we finally begin to deploy this incredible resources that Akshai has built as an invaluable member of DNC’s best-in-politics Research team.  Institutional Knowledge in English: The turnover at Univision/Telemundo is really high. Overall institutional knowledge across the local affiliates in particular is extremely rare.

Akshai may be the only person on either campaign who knows when, say, Telemundo Wisconsin correspondents move to Telemundo Chicago. This is a big deal for us, not only because it helps us proactively update our spreadsheets, but because the awareness reminds us to reach and congratulate them on their new role and see how DNC can continue to help in their new market. This deepens our relationship with reporters.

Discovering News “Scoops” Bilingually: Univision and Telemundo follow, as opposed to make news. When they do make news, Akshai flags it and we collaborate on who from the “Preferred Bilinguals” press list can do the most with a given clip. "Preferred Bilinguals" are bilingual-enough election reporters who publish in English. "Bilinguals Preferred” list familiar with Akshai’s videos. We pitch them as “scoops” and “exclusives” because they haven’t been covered yet in English. The reporter for this piece gets them all the time.  We can spin this a number of ways. This is an opportunity to say hello and touch base on the timing and setting for a voting rights town hall (agreed to during the NH debate negotiations); and to stress that we want to have greater collaboration with their team on having the Democratic Party represented on their shows. MSNBC has largely moved to having their contributors and talent do most of the on-air commentary and we don’t get many opportunities to have the Party represented. While Mika won’t be there, you should point out that you’re reaching out to re-engage with her. Our relationship with NBC/MSNBC is severely frayed given what they perceive as a snub with the last debate, and CNN getting favored treatment. Griffin may raise that concern, and ideally we could lower the temperature and seek common ground.

BACKGROUND:
There had been stories suggesting that MSNBC was in turmoil last year, and they underwent a major shift on programming. There had been rumors that Griffin was going to be fired. However, internal sources suggest he is fine and not going anywhere and MSNBC has seen a significant improvement over last year in ratings.

Democrats waved the Palestinian flag from inside the Wells Fargo Convention Center.



Of course, you couldn’t move inside the RNC without seeing an American flag.
