Shouldn't it be proven absolutely false before releasing genetically modified biting insects into the general population?  The fact the claim is "unproven" leads me to believe there is no absolute testing the guarantees beyond a shadow of a doubt that these GM mosquitos will have no adverse affects on humans.

Yes, I understand.  Snopes didn't disprove the argument with evidence that says GM mosquitos in no way contributed to the increase in birth defects.  It just states that there is no evidence that GM mosquitos caused the increase in birth defect.  That means the jury is still out.
