Had nothing to do with the communications network that was sparse or non-existent, did it?  DUH!!!!

Umm...There were still national elections for president right? The printing press was invented, right?

No Joey, the fact is that the presidency was limited in its power.  There were states rights, and the federal goverement and especially the President had little to no power and influence.

Regardless...If nobody votes but you and Box, it will allow you and box to make the rules for everybody.  What's the difference if 2 people make the rules or 100 million?  I say reducing the number of people forcing their values onto people that disagree with those values would be much more efficient and less divisive.

Cissy gives the impression that the real power of elections is for the STATES, through their
governor.
The percent of Americans voting for US President in past years:
1828               57.6%
1832               55.4%
1836               57.8%
1840               80.2%
1844               78.9%
1848               72.7%
1852               69.6%
1856               78.9%
1860               81.2%
1864               73.8%
1868               78.1%
1872               71.3%
1876               81.8%
1880               79.4%
1884               77.5%
1888               79.3%
1892               74.7%
1896               79.3%
1900               73.2%
1904               65.2%
1908               65.4%
1912               58.8%
1916               61.6%
1920               49.2%
1924               48.9%
1928               56.9%

But, but Cissy said that the President had no power back then... so why did so many vote for
a 'figure head'... why not just vote for their states legislature and governor???

You left off the first 10 presidential elections.  1824 - John Quincy Adams & Andrew Jackson 26% voter turnout.

Let's not forget, women made up at LEAST 50% of the population AND COULD NOT VOTE for many of these years.

So in 1828, 57% of the WHITE MEN voted.  If you subtract women, non land owners, and African Americans, 57% of eligible voters make it around 20%-25% of the total adult population.

I highly doubt the veracity of the statement "before the Civil War most Americans did not know the name of the president."  They certainly did not have day-to-day coverage of the president back then -- but most Americans at least knew the name of their president.

Ultimately, whether they did or didn't know the president's name bears NO IMPACT on the issue of Voter ID.

But you already know that.

we as a whole have been duped into thinking politicians are elected to 'work for us'....much like the bad term "the customer is
always right".....

no wonder we get no where....everyone is there to please us because it's the terminology used and it becomes it's own
monster....

if a politician works for me then a soldiers works for me, then a fire fighter works for me, then an IRS agent works for me etc etc....

the politicians work FOR THE GOVERNMENT......

This article first appeared at Black Community News:

Despite liberals’ efforts to drive a racial wedge between Americans, it hasn’t been completely successful when it comes to showing a government-issued form of photo identification before voting. According to a recent Fox News poll, 51 percent of black Americans support voter ID.

One might think blacks would resent the implication that they’re too “poor,” lazy, or dumb to go down to the DMV like everybody else and obtain a driver’s license or non-driver’s photo ID. But that’s exactly the way Democrats present the issue…minus the politically incorrect words, of course.

Project 21, a black conservatives policy group, issued statements on the poll.

“This poll shows there may be strong black support for Obama as a politician, but not necessarily as a policymaker,” said Cherylyn Harley LeBon, Project 21 Co-Chairman and former senior counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. “And a prime example are voter ID laws. Although the Obama Administration, its legislative and judicial supporters, the media and left-wing activists continue to oppose voter ID laws and claim they marginalize minorities, the black community is still quite supportive of efforts to protect polling place. After relentless warnings they could be denied the right to vote, a majority of black Americans in this particular poll still recognize the need to protect legal voters against identity theft.

A majority of Americans in general supports voter ID. Proving identity is a common-sense measure to ensure the integrity of the voting process. And it’s not a hardship. People use some form of photo ID in personal and business dealings all the time. Why is it suddenly a hardship when it’s time to vote?

A majority of black Americans in this poll found nothing inherently racist about showing an ID to vote. It discredits the progressive talking point that black Americans uniformly see voter laws as racist and an attempt at voter suppression,” said Kevin Martin, a Navy veteran and small business owner. “It also shows that progressives who claim to represent the black community are not listening to us on this issue. Perhaps it is because they only seek to use our community to further their own agenda.”

Actually, I quoted an article from an African-American website.  They quoted the Fox News poll.
More importantly, they backed up the poll with additional information.

The FACT is that white Democrats like Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Paul Tonko use fear tactics to try to scare African-American voters to "stay on the plantation" and vote a straight Democrat ticket.  The same way they try to scare the elderly, union workers and every other special interest group thay want to keep on the hook.

The FACT is that a majority of people of color believe that Voter ID is a reasonable thing.  They REFUSE to buy the PelosipaLOSER crap.  They are smarter than the PelosipaLOSER crowd thinks they are.

BTW - were you aware of the growing movement coming from the minority community to assist members of their community get the proper ID to be able to register and vote?

Those who oppose VOTER ID do so only because NOT having ID requirements makes it easier for "shenanigans" to happen at election polling places.  They don't want FREE and FAIR elections.

Of course you have a link to the website and you can provide it in this thread, right?

Or is it just some tabloid group.

Not taking positions on the issue, just looking for someone who makes statements to back up those statements with evidence.  Not that any of us would expect a fairy tale teller to provide evidence.
