Not voting is doing something about it. The more people realize that their vote legitimizes the forcing of values held by the left or right onto people that disagree with those values, they will hopefully realize that not voting is the answer to the division created by it.

Yes, you've got it! I don't care who "leads the country". In fact, prior to the civil war, most Anericans didn't even know the name of the President, because the president wasn't a king like figure that affected everybodies life by pushing their "values" onto the rest of America.
