MUSIC AT MABEE FARM
    ROTTERDAM JUNCTION — The Mabee Farm’s third annual Summer Concert Series “Howlin’ At The Moon” will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, June 4, in the 1760 Mabee Farm Dutch Barn on Route 5S.
    The featured performers will be bluegrass/folk band “Three Quarters North,” singer/songwriter Dan Johnson and guitarist Mark Baptiste. Admission is $3 at the door.

SHAVING HORSES
    ROTTERDAM — Mabee Farm Historic Site on Route 5S will offer a one day class on shaving horses from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday .
    Shaving horses are simple benches that were key to any woodworking and construction of 150 years ago. Master carpenter Win Bigelow will teach participants how to use the shaving horse to make wooden handles, hatchets, axes and more. If you have tools with broken handles, bring them. Basic tool sharpening will also be covered.
    Tuition is $75, which includes materials. Bring lunch.


ICE CREAM SOCIAL
    ROTTERDAM — The Rotterdam United Methodist Church, corner of Helderberg Avenue and Curry Road, will hold an ice cream social and band concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 20.
    The Esperance Band will perform. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating.



FESTIVAL SEEKS CRAFTERS
    ROTTERDAM — Applications are now being accepted for the 9th annual Mabee Farm Arts & Crafts Festival to be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, on the grounds of the Mabee Farm Historic Site on Route 5S.

ROTTERDAM UMC EVENTS

    ROTTERDAM — Rotterdam United Methodist Church, 1915 Helderberg Ave., has scheduled the following two events:
    Chicken barbecue will be sold from 3:30 p.m. until sold out Saturday .
    The cost is $10 for an adult dinner, $6 for a child’s dinner and $6 for half a chicken. Drive-through only.
    An ice cream social and band concert will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Esperance Band will provide the music. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating.

HISTORICAL HAT CLASS
    ROTTERDAM — Dave Cornelius will teach a class on “How to Make a Child’s Gustoweh” from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Mabee Farm Historic Site on Route 5S.
    The gustoweh, or “real hat” is a type of feathered hat that is worn by the men of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.
    This event is open to children and adults. The cost is $30 plus $10 materials fee. Call 887-5073 for an application.

DOLL-MAKING CLASS
    ROTTERDAM — The Mabee Farm Historic Site on Route 5S will offer a class on cornhusk doll-making from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 7.
    Instructor Pam Bucci will teach participants how to make a traditional Iroquois cornhusk doll. The class is open to adults and children (kids under 8 years must be accompanied by an adult). Each participant will leave with their very own cornhusk doll.
    The cost is $25, which includes materials. Call 887-5073 for an application.


TOASTMASTERS
    ROTTERDAM — The Mohawk Toastmasters Club will meet at 6:15 p.m. Wednesdays, July 11 and 25, at the Rotterdam Senior Citizens Center, 2639 Hamburg St.
    The meeting is open to anyone who is interested in improving speaking, listening, communication and leadership skills. There is no cost to attend the meeting.

DRAPER REUNION
    ROTTERDAM — Draper School will hold its second annual “Across the Years” reunion for all former students at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at the Rotterdam Elks on Curry Road.
    There will be a buffet dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
    The cost is $30 per person. Make checks out to Across the Years and mail to Across the Years, 473 Cranford Place, Schenectady, NY 12306. Include your name (married/maiden), year of graduation, address, phone number and email address for each person attending. All payments must be received by Monday, July 16.
    Also, a free pre-party will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, July 20, at The Blue Jay Tavern on Broadway.

MEMOIR WORKSHOP
    ROTTERDAM — The Mabee Farm Historic Site in partnership with the Schenectady County Public Library will hold a four-week writing workshop series, “Saving Grace: Personal Stories of Survival,” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, July 16, 23, 30 and Aug. 6, at the Mabee Farm on Route 5S.
    Facilitated by author Mary Cuffe Perez, the workshop will help participants develop a one-page memoir of their personal survival experiences. Registration is required. Call 388-4511 to register.

WAGS AND WHISKERS FAIR
    ROTTERDAM — The Schenectady County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will host its third annual Wags and Whiskers Family Fun Fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Mabee Farm Historic Site, 1080 Main St., Route 5S.
    The event will feature food and vendors, miniature horses, a Reptile Adventure show, an Agile Dogs agility course, a NYS Trooper K-9 demonstration, Heather Madeline’s pet photo booth, KidZone games and prizes, pet adoption clinics, music by What-Ever! and more. At 2 p.m., a pet costume contest will be held for an entry fee of $5.
    This event is free and open to all. Donations to the Schenectady County SPCA are welcome.

Mabee crafts fest
set for Saturday

    ROTTERDAM — The ninth annual Mabee Farm Arts & Crafts Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Mabee Farm historic site on Route 5S.
    The festival will feature pottery, fine art, jams, handwoven goods, candles, jewelry, photography, quilts, baskets, soaps, artisan demonstrations and more.
    Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for children and seniors or $10 per carload. The fee also includes a historic house tour.

    ROTTERDAM — The Rotterdam Square mall, 93 West Campbell Road, will hold a free computer and electronics recycling collection event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday .
    Collection items include computers, electronics, printers and scanners, computer accessories, typewriters, audio/visual equipment, video game systems, cellphones, TV sets and batteries.
