CHURCH BARBECUE
    ROTTERDAM — The Rotterdam United Methodist Church, Curry Road and Helderberg Avenue, will hold a Brooks chicken barbecue from 3:30 p.m. until sold out Saturday.
    Drive-thru service only will be available.
    The cost is $10 for an adult dinner and $6 for a child’s dinner or a half-chicken.

LGBT GROUP MEETING
    ROTTERDAM — The Human Rights Commission’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender committee meeting will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at the Rotterdam branch of the Schenectady County Public Library, 1100 N. Westcott Road.


ICE CREAM AND MUSIC
    ROTTERDAM — The Rotterdam United Methodist Church, at the corner of Helderberg Avenue and Curry Road, will hold a free ice cream social and band concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 29.
    Music will be provided by the Esperance Band.
    Visitors are asked to bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating.

TOASTMASTERS TO MEET
    ROTTERDAM — Mohawk Toastmasters will meet at 6:15 p.m. Friday, July 6, at the Rotterdam Senior Citizens Center at East Campbell and Hamburg Street.
    People who are interested in improving their leadership and communication skills are invited to attend. Work-place communication will be featured.

LEARN TO SPIN YARN
    ROTTERDAM — The Mabee Farm Historic Site, Route 5S, is accepting applications for a class in Spinning with a Drop Spindle being offered from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, July 10.
    Instructor Pam Bucci will teach participants how to create homespun yarn. Use the farm’s spindles or bring your own.
    The fee is $50 plus $5 materials fee. For more information call 887-5073.

DRAPER HIGH REUNION
    ROTTERDAM — An “Across the Years Reunion” open to all Schenectady Draper High graduates will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at the Rotterdam Elks, 1152 Curry Road.
    Participants are asked to dress in casual business attire. There will be a buffet with an open seating plan, and a DJ will provide entertainment.
    The cost is $30, due as soon as possible. Those who have to work and cannot make it for dinner can join after 8 p.m. for $5 per person.

READING CAMP

KIDS’ ADVENTURE WEEK

BASKET-MAKING CLASS
    ROTTERDAM — Applications are now being accepted for a basket-making class that will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at the Mabee Farm Historic Site, Route 5S.
    Instructor Beverly Cornelius’s design is based on an Adirondack pack basket. The Shaker tape strap leaves both hands free for berry picking.
    Class fee is $85, and materials fee is $25. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch.

Enjoy a Taste of Italy on Hamburg Street

Please join the Hamburg Street Merchants' Association for its Farmers' Market on Saturday July 23 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Rotterdam Senior Citizens, Inc. located at 2639 Hamburg Street, Rotterdam.  Come out and have a tast of Italy! There will be good food and entertainment provided by Dom Adamo, raffles and door prizes.  

In addition, there will be a cooking demonstration by Rotterdam resident Dolores Scalise.  Learn the secrets of Italian cooking prepared with locally grown vegetable and herbs!

Bookview Station Winery will have fine wines on hand as well as Sugar Girl Sweets with cookies, cupcakes, muffins and bagels. They will even have fried dough and pizza.  Enjoy world pleasures, samples dips and spreads.
