SCHENECTADY - Wayne Bennett, the retired State Police superintendent who went on to lead the city's police and fire departments for a decade, died on Tuesday. He was 71.
Earlier this year, Bennett was diagnosed with cancer. A recent MRI showed that the cancer had spread.
Bennett's death ends a high-profile career that lasted for nearly a half century.
