SCHENECTADY — First there was the Chili Chowdown, then the Wing Walk. Now get ready for the Soup Stroll.

Fifteen restaurants and counting will be participating in the inagural Soup Stroll in Downtown Schenectady later this month.

Starting at noon on Jan. 30, downtown restaurants will serve 3 ounce servings of soup for $1. Bowls will also be sold for $5.

Centre Street Pub and The Van Dyck Restaurant and Lounge came up with the idea in an effort to energize the usually slow months of January and February.

“We were just looking for something to bring a little foot traffic to downtown Schenectady,” said David Pierre, manager at Centre Street Pub. “We tried to think of something to do. So, we got together, and everyone seemed to jump on board.”

The participating restaurants include 20 North Broadway Tavern, Apertivo Bistro, Bel Cibo Fine Gourmet Foods and Spices, CAFE NOLA, Centre Street Pub, Civitello’s Italian Pastry Shoppe, Crossroads Gifts & Wellness, Firestone 151, Katie O’Byrne’s Restaurant & Bar, Manhattan Exchange, Mexican Radio Schenectady, Nico’s Rooftop Tavern, Pinhead Susan’s, Puzzles Bakery & Café and The Van Dyck Restaurant and Lounge.

Nice bowl of Cream of Chicken Rice at Blue Ribbon hits the spot. The Irish Stew at Katie O's is great too.

very true.   Money for the rich political cronies downtown who don't even live in the city, but no money to reduce taxes on the homeowners.

Money to give out all these lavish tax exemptions downtown to for-profit businesses, but not money to get a new phone system in the city (heard it failed again)

And we have GE, one of world's richest companies.  But McTHIEF, the county, and Metroplex not only chose to increase taxes on the homeowners in the city especially and to other great extent in the school districts and town (Rotterdam anyway) by making the homeowners pay the bulk of the property taxes for this multi hundred billion dollar company, but now they are giving GE even more money.  Oh yeah, to build a fitness center for it's employees, as if their employees cannot spend $10 a month to go to some local gym.   For crying out loud.  How much is McCarthy and all of them getting paid in kick backs from GE now?   The taxpayers paying for this, many are struggling to pay for their life saving medications, and now their money will be used to provide a private gym for employees.!?!?!   Buy a bike for crying out loud and ride 5 miles a day at least

What have these tax handouts done for the tax base in the city?   It has caused the tax base to fall and let's hear from anyone who can explain that giving money to rich companies which causes the tax base to drop explain why a falling tax base, increased taxes, and falling home values is a good thing for the city.

Yep, the people paying all these taxes to make downtown rich so that the merchants can have all these various food "festivals" will be going to the soup kitchens!  Isn't that nice.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
