This could be fun/interesting.   Lets get one stated here.   Topics to consider:Tax INCREASES leading to the 10% reduction with the casino opening (resulting in a no gain in tax reduction),Will the new Police Chief be living in the city, and the elephant in the room-the potential fallout from the Jay St. fire and the 13 related lawsuits, according to the Gazette (deemed the #1 story for the city in 2015 by the Gazette),trumping the Alco/Casino project news.  What are yours?

It's all about saving money to SPEND elsewhere, not for tax reduction.

End ALL tax exemptions for all of downtown, Galesi, Mallozzi, Marcella, the hotels, gin mills, etc can MORE THAN AFFORD to pay their own way in full.  If the poor homeowners are required to pay full taxes, then the rich political cronies must also.

IMMEDIATE citywide reassessment.

Cut out snowplowing downtown - make the merchants pay, and then spend the money on plowing the streets in the neighborhoods where the taxpayers live.

IMMEDIATELY require the city to obey it's own laws regarding recycling and sorting of trash and enforce those requirements, cite tenants and homeowners who do not recycle/sort trash.  (better yet, eliminate city trash collection completely and switch to private service)

Arrest the mayor and dems on the council for refusing to obey laws of the state of NY based on the mayor and council's refusal to assess ALL properties in the state mandated uniform percentage of value

IMMEDIATE release of code enforcement records on the Jay St fire -- not only the inspection done before the fire but ALL records of EACH AND EVERY rental certificate of occupancy issued, when issued, etc.  IMMEDIATE release of city records regarding the failure/refusal of the city to make sure that the buildings were insured and that the city was named on the policy in order to protect the taxpayers from having to pay the demolition bill.

Require the mayor to provide proof of his statement in his address where he said crime is down in the city, in view of the official report from the state of NY that Schenectady has THE HIGHEST CRIME RATE in the whole capital region.

Provide a list to the taxpayers of each and every house ever part of the gala bus tours, how much the asking price started, which ones sold and for how much, and the financial stability information on the purchasers (i.e., what kind of taxpayer money had to be doled out to them)

Get Mary OFF the board of assessment because it is a clear conflict of interest that she is ruling on assessments when she is trying to keep home prices artificially high while trying to garner for herself extra money in commissions when she sells houses.  Report in the newspapers monthly of her persistent tax deadbeat status in the city.

That's a start

Do you have ANY idea how ridiculous you sound when you post dribble like this?

So you mean that, for one example,  it's perfectly fine for the mayor to allow houses to be assessed in violation of state law?   Are you saying that asking a question like that is ridiculous?  Why should houses be allowed to be illegally assessed?

Are you subject to laws?   Of course.  So explain why the mayor should get away with disobeying state law?

Explain on what basis it is acceptable for some houses to be assessed at 200% of market value when the owner would be paying twice the taxes they should be, while other houses are assessed at maybe 70% of value resulting in those owners paying far less than what they should pay in taxes.

Do you believe that ALL homeowners should be their fair share of taxes?

Does a good taxpaying citizen sit back and never complain, never question anything and just let their elected officials do whatever the hell they want to the citizens and citizens should just shut up?

I never said I don't question elected officials or complain ... but you question / complain about EVERYTHING.

Is the tax rate fair?  No, probably not ... but so far, NYS hasn't done anything about it.

Yes, I believe homeowners should pay their fair share.  But "Cut out snowplowing downtown" - is just ridiculous. "End ALL tax exemptions for all of downtown" isn't going to happen - agreements are in place for 5-10-25-99 years.  You want to change that? Change who's in office. "Arrest the mayor and dems on the council" - really? Seriously, if you think that's going to happen, you're dreaming.  Nothing they're doing is an "arrest-able" offense.  Don't like it?  Sue for damages (you don't live in the city, so you're not affected, which makes that point mute). It's your only recourse aside from changing who's in office.

Just because the Gazette prints something -- doesn't make it so.  In this case, the owners and editors are just stating their corporate opinion.

Personally, I think that the #1 story of 2015 are all of the projects/new developments that have moved forward.  Progress is being made - the "ship" has been turned around and is moving in the right direction - SLOWLY .. BUT SURELY.
