TrustCo Bank closing one of its Union Street locations By Larry Rulison on December 31, 2015 at 12:07 PM
TrustCo Bank is closing one of its two closely-located branches on upper Union Street in Schenectady. The two branches sit only a couple blocks away from one another. The existing branch will be the 1620 Union St. branch, which was updated last year. The 1700 Union St. branch is becoming in a Dunkin’ Donuts. It will officially close Jan. 15. The new Dunkin’ Donuts will replace a small existing Dunkin’ Donuts at 1621 Union St. |

Oh no, don't move that little Dunkin Donuts! That is a great location for all the parents waiting for their kids at the tae kwon do and dance place. 1700 Union is way too far to walk for a quick sneak out. How will we survive!!! |

Dunkin Donuts is probably making the move so that it can have a drive-thru window. Drive-thru - in that type of business - is where the bulk of the $$$ is to be made now. |

This is an industry-wide phenomenon. Society wants things faster and on-the-run. It is just a plain and simple FACT that the Drive-Thru is an essential part of the fast food and, increasingly, other service industries. |

What about all the added related air polution from these idling vehicles? Buses are not to idle more than 10 minutes before shutting off. The oil companies probably support these idling vehicles as it causes us to use (waste) more. Consumerism is what drives the economy so in that vein it is acceptable. |

This is exactly the point that Pope Francis was trying to get across in his encyclical, Laudato Si, that people should be considering the impact of their individual decisions on the environment and other people here and around the globe. Very few people stop to think what impact that idling in the drive-thru will have on others or the environment. Just think of all the fumes the guy or gal working the drive-thru is inhaling and they will probably develop some cancer or other condition later in life because of it. Personally, I prefer to get out of my car to eat inside or in nice weather outside. But for many folks, the drive-thru has become a standard part of their daily lives. |

often, the drive thru line is so long, it ends up being quicker to park and go in for your merchandise! |

This is true. I only go to an actual bank building once or twice a year at this point. |

It is a FACT that drive thru is NOT essential, it is merely a convenience for the lazy. Would you die if you actually had to get off your butt and walk into a fast food place? |

Then how come we don't see you riding a bike to work? ROFLMAO Come on, from your mommies' home to your church in Niskayuna (as per the official tax maps), is not that far. You could ride a bike there every day. |

If you were actually interested in engaging in a sane, intelligent discussion, than you would have understood what I actually wrote. Drive-thru windows are an essential part of the fast food industry. You apparently couldn't comprehend the part where I wrote that I do NOT use drive-thru windows. However, the topic is NOT about me. There is absolutely no reason for you to make every topic an excuse to personally attack me or others. Would you die if you actually had to engage in a civil discussion without twisting others' words, lying about others or otherwise attacking others? |
