Marjorie L. Schmid died peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, surrounded by family. Marjorie was born in Philadelphia on June 19, 1924, the second of four children. She graduated with honors from Girls High and with a degree in nutrition from Drexel. She started her career running the dining hall at Washington State University in Pullman. Moving back east, she settled in Schenectady in 1956 to raise seven children and be an adjunct at Fulton-Montgomery Community College, while being actively involved in PTA, Girl Scouts, the YWCA, Planned Parenthood, First Unitarian Society of Schenectady, Proctor's volunteering, defending the Great Flats Aquafer and the Schenectady County Historical Society. Marjorie was an inveterate letter writer, penning numerous letters to the newspaper and attending hundreds of meetings trying to keep local politicians accountable. Marjorie was predeceased by her sister, Edith Beck; her brother, Alan Schmid; and her daughter, Janet Alesandrini. She is survived by her brother, Lawrence Schmid of Greenbelt, MD; her children, Nancy (Tom) Gifford of Scotia, NY, Robert (Sarah) Kee of Kerrville, TX, Katharine Horstman of Dallas, TX, Elaine (Michael Burrows) Kee of Glens Falls, NY, Laura LaGue of Austin, TX and Norman (Jan) Kee of Delmar, NY; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Marjorie was a teacher to the end, donating her body to Albany Medical College as an anatomical gift. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Marjorie was a great lady and a woman I was proud to call a friend.  Many here knew her, or knew of her.  RIP my friend.
