Very interesting that the town's budget does not ANYWHERE contain the phrase "tax levy."
But it shows the proposed increase in the tax rates. The combined town "general and highway" taxes will increase:
From: 3.416295
To: 3.715291
Round that:
From $3.42
To $3.72
So a house assessed for $160,000 will see their town tax bill (EXCLUDING the various special districts like lighting, fire, etc which increases are negligible) increase
From $547
To $595
That represents an 8.8% tax bill INCREASE IF the budget gets approved.
Obviously that blows the tax "cap." Is the town explaining it to the taxpayers?

A Tax Levy is the amount of money to be raised by property taxation and is reported annually by each district (residents approve the tax levy). A Tax Rate is is the percentage used to determine how much a property owner will pay per one hundred dollars of net assessed value.

The town is not telling us what the percent increase to the tax levy is. How are the taxpayers supposed to have the information we are entitled to? How are we supposed to know if the town budget is within the tax cap? How can people speak at hearings without the details.
The tax LEVY increase could well be within the tax cap.
But, because McCarthy and his buddies have given GE a 100% exemption from paying property taxes (oh, they pay a TINY TINY portion of the full tax bill, we homeowners pay the rest of it) and GE's larger portion lies in the town, this causes the tax BILLs to increase much more than the tax LEVY.

Actually no, residents do not approve or disapprove the tax levy. All residents can do is speak at a town board meeting (or city council, or county legislature, whatever). We do not have direct vote on town, city, county budgets.
We only do for school budgets. And school districts cannot state what the tax RATES will be, they can only REMOTELY GUESS what the RATES will be based on the total taxable value of the assessments from a year prior. They can tell us that the tax LEVY is increasing by X%. The school votes are held well before the assessment roll is finalized and it is only AFTER the roll is finalized that a school district can set tax RATES because the tax RATE is determined by math using the tax levy figure and the total taxable value figure (the latter comes from the assessment roll). For example remember a year ago I think it was the Schenectady school district tax LEVY was under the tax cap, but the tax BILLS for many increased by $300, some $500!
But if you look at the town budget, NO WHERE does the phrase "tax levy" appear.

This is the same math used for the mandated government health insurance and it's subsidies......

as I see it there doesn't need to be a fee for brush pick up any more......
IDIOTS
I just heard they're eliminating the brush fees.
We are advised NOT to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. Funny how that works.
It would be best to eliminate those fees because, come on, they couldn't even do the appropriate markings to identify those that opted out til August this year.
That fee had to be one of the stupidest thing the town has done.
The yard waste fee IS in the proposed budget however (see image below). However there could be board members that are saying they want it eliminated or they won't vote yes on the budget.
Then I have seen that both candidates for supervisor want to eliminate the fee as well.
