I had planned on it....mainly to cast a vote away from Jim Longo for Highway supervisor who I personally know does not care for the safety of the residents and the laws that govern the roadways of NYS.

I have talked with Larry LaMora on numerous occasions and find him to be an honest hard working person. I have personally witnessed Jim Longo lying, and changing his tune to fit the narrative put forth by our town board and the clueless town attorney.

I have heard folks say that they will not vote for ANY of the 'regurgitated', that are running for office...........AGAIN!!

they mention....tommasone, mertz, longo...just to name a few......don't matter what party.....folks are just looking for 'new blood'....just like they are for the presidential candidates.

but most ROTTENdamians don't know how to get out of their own way........so time will tell.

well...well....well.....were with some folks last night who live in ROTTENdam...

well here's the story on why and who ROTTENdamians should vote for.

a vote for tommasone is a vote for the RPD!!!!
it was said that tommasone and crew have promised them 'the farm'...so to say. ($$$$$$)

marco (tc) has a tommasone sign...but is supporting Cleveland...and has told folks to do just that.

Longo, if elected will get the appropriate amount of money in the highway dept budget to 'get the job done'.

Lamora was set up....he was given less money so it would 'appear' that he couldn't 'get the job done'.

As far as town justice.....Bradshaw WAS a cop....need they say more.

so there ya have it folks!!
ROTTENdam is just as redneck and corrupt as it ever was!!

idiots

Of course, it is the American way to participate in the democratic process.
Looks like we have several good candidates from across the various parties to choose from.

County Legislature - it is simple ..the only good choice is to vote for Jasenski and Casso.  One of their opponents is a nice guy and the other is .. well if one doesn't have anything good to say about someone than it is better to remain silent.

The Daily Gazette

Tuesday, October 20, 2015

By Zachary Matson

Rotterdam candidates sound off at forum

ROTTERDAM — Candidates for a slew of elected Rotterdam positions squared off tonight, taking on issues ranging from taxes and budgets to the Rivers Casino and gun control.

With a vacant town supervisor position on the Nov. 3 ballot and political party control of the town board up for grabs, Rotterdam voters could see major changes in leadership after the election.

At the League of Women Voters of Schenectady County-hosted forum, which drew a crowd of about 50 residents, a general consensus emerged among candidates around Rotterdam’s need for improved infrastructure, revitalized business districts and curtailed fees and taxes.

Rotterdam Town Supervisor candidates Yvonne Cleveland and Steve Tommasone — both shunning party labels — seemed to agree more than they disagreed. They both cited what they called excessive fees and taxes, vowing to eliminate a $50 brush collection fee.

“To say taxes are OK isn’t living in the real world,” said Tommasone, a former town supervisor. “We need to make cuts and we need to grow the town.”

Cleveland said, “For most seniors and families, [taxes] are out of control.”

She went on to criticize an Oct. 17 Daily Gazette article in which she was quoted as saying “I don’t really think” taxes are too high in Rotterdam. In the interview with reporter Ned Campbell, Cleveland said, she was referring to tax levels when she moved to Rotterdam 27 years ago, not now.

Gazette Editor Judy Patrick stood behind the article.

Both candidates called for a comprehensive plan to help create zoning certainty for businesses and cutting back on wasteful spending in the town’s budget.

The four Rotterdam Town Board candidates running for two seats highlighted their personal experiences — an attorney, restaurant owner, state legislative aid and former chief negotiator for the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Benevolent Association — and largely called for greater cooperation on the board.

When asked about the impact the new casino in Schenectady might have on Rotterdam, the candidates — Evan Christou, Samantha Miller-Herrera, Ryan Debrino and Stan Marchinkowski — offered views ranging from upbeat about an influx of tax revenue and jobs to concern over the “type of people” that would be visiting the region.

A clearer party divide emerged among the four candidates vying for a pair of Schenectady County Legislature seats as they shared positions on gun control, budgets and taxes.

Incumbent Republican Brian McGarry said he hoped the county would be able to eliminate the Metroplex economic development group that receives a cut of county sales tax. He also argued on behalf of fellow Republican candidate Lisa Dufek, pointing to the large Democratic majority on the Legislature as creating a lack of transparency.

Incumbent Democrat Tony Jasenski, on the other hand, said the county had improved its budget and economic conditions under Democratic leadership and called on residents to support longtime health care industry worker and political neophyte Nancy Casso for a seat.

The candidates for town justice presented a stark difference in tone and experience, with attorney John Mertz taking on former Schenectady police officer James Bradshaw Jr.

Bradshaw said his 26 years of experience as an officer taught him the “ins and outs of everything from a traffic stop to a homicide.” He added: “I respect the rights of the people, but when it comes to the criminals, I am very tough.”

While Mertz thanked Bradshaw for his service, he said his own legal experience was critical to the town justice position, citing a New York Times report about the pitfalls of non-lawyer elected judges.

“I chose a different path, . one that makes me uniquely qualified to be Rotterdam Town Justice,” Mertz said of his experience in private practice and working in the state Legislature.

And former and current Rotterdam Town Highway Superintendents — James Longo and Larry Lamora, respectively — attacked one another in the last race of the night. Longo, who served as superintendent for 10 years, said Lamora left equipment unused and uninspected and complained about funding while asking for a pay raise.

But Lamora defended himself, refuting the accusations and saying he was “the first in the office and the last out” each day as he worked with his road crews.

Mertz is as "uniquely qualified" as Barney Fife.  I don't know Mr. Bradshaw that well but what I do know about Mertz is enough to say that he is among about 5 or 6 people in town that I would NOT vote for EVER.

As for County Legislature,  Tony Jasenski definitely has my voted ---  still weighing my options about Casso and McGarry --- would not vote for the other candidate EVER.

Steve Tommasone has had experience as town supervisor.  I can say this about Steve: While we didn't always see eye to eye on the issues, we agreed on more than we disagreed, we always got along except for one misunderstanding and we share a desire to see the town move forward.  His establishing the Parks & Recreation Commission, inviting me to be a part of it and working with us for the remaining time that he was in office stood in sharp contrast to his successors.   I shared his vision for Rotterdam's parks -- including the proposed park in Rotterdam Junction.  Still don't know enough about Cleveland to say anything one way or the other about her.  I am strongly leaning towards endorsing and voting for Mr. Tommasone.

I haven't reached any decisions on the candidates running for town council members.
