And he was being robbed of WHAT exactly?

or is this just another of many and it isn't news worthy anymore to provide details?

"the wounded man was discovered by a passer-by in the parking lot of a church at the corner of State and Swan streets.

Skinner said Solomon lived in an apartment on Furman Street in the Central State Street neighborhood and was trying to get his life back on track...

When he was 27, Solomon was hospitalized in critical condition after an apparent drive-by shooting on Third Street in Albany, the Times Union reported in 2002.

On Tuesday, Marshall recalled that his brother was shot seven times. "

When people get fed up enough, they will declare a truce in the drug war.

Sure the cops try to keep the drug war in the targeted neighborhoods, but the death and violence will not be contained.

Absolutely today's death and violence is identical to actions during prohibition.

As long as the police keep hunting them to fill the needs of corporate owned prison factories, they will use death and violence to protect themselves.

EVERYBODY knows that ANYONE can do ANYTHING ANYWHERE......until/if they get caught.

war on drugs didn't stop ANYONE ANYWHERE from selling or using drugs.

Same with prostitution, murder, theft ... the list goes on.

COPS come 'after the fact'. that's how the system is set up = FAIL!!

suggestion: empower the people to arm themselves.

perhaps then this guy would have only been shot ONCE.....instead of SEVEN times and would still be alive!!! DUH!

you REALLY don't have to be a COP to do that....and never did.

We live in a very evil world with very evil people.....protect yourself and your family!!!!

ARM YOURSELF!!!

Do you have any evidence that it was not just another ordinary day in the drug war on the Hill?

The guns exist there because of the drug war.

The police, the courts, the judges, the corporate prison owners and the lawyers all live comfortably keeping people in prison slave labor factories.

More US prisoners than in China who has 5 time our population.

As you say, it may not be drug war related, but how can you tell one casualty from another in a targeted war zone.

They learned to kill from the drug warriors.

They acquired guns to keep from being hunted victims.

Drug war is the cause.

Death and violence in the targeted areas is the byproduct.

Massive wealth maintaining the entire law enforcement and corrections industry is the other byproduct.

Absolutely nothing was learned from the massive growth in enforcement during prohibition, except how to get rich being part of the enforcement.

Facts and Figures on Incarceration in America:

Over the last four decades, America’s prison population has increased dramatically. This tremendous growth disproportionately affects minorities, and has been exacerbated by the war on drugs. Mass incarceration has become a form of legalized discrimination — what activist and lawyer Michelle Alexander calls the “new Jim Crow” — that makes it more difficult for millions to participate in basic aspects of our democracy.

Over $150,000.00 a year to keep a person imprisoned in NY State.

Totally unsustainable.

Most death and violence is drug war related.

What sense does it make to pay cops over $100,000 a year to keep jail cells full @ $150,000 a year per prisoner.

Fool me once, shame on you,

Fool me 20 million times shame on us, for not stopping you.

Over 20 million Americans have been imprisoned since the beginning of the drug war in the 70's.

Before the drug war there were more drugs everywhere, but a thousand times less death and violence.

Over $50 billion dollars a year is spent to fight just the war on drugs.

Illegal drug use obviously has victims.

Most of them are victims because of the unregulated nature of drugs and sellers.

The drug war enforcement however, has had over 20 million victims, giving birth to entire generations that have grown up considering the police to be the enemy of the people.

And you wonder why there are no witnesses when someone is gunned down in front of a crowd in the targeted areas.

Then entire system is racist and profit based for all of those who are part of the system itself.

Pull out previous arrest record trends to self justify targeted actions, but the truth is, the areas being targeted, have always been targeted thereby justifying continued similar results.

And the enforcers head home to their homes outside of the targeted areas.

Homes that were financed off of the suffering  and racist treatment of minorities that were profiled or were in the targeted areas.

Broken families with missing family members, outnumber those who have not had part of their families ripped away from them for decades.

No one has presented any evidence the reason behind this - you have, without evidence used it as an opportunity to make an argument about the "drug war".

Based on your argument - unless I can present evidence that this murder was not committed because of the drug war, then your argument is valid.  Okay, that makes sense to you and no one else.

Nice try.

It isn't about any individual death or shooting.

The drug war caused the rebirth of gangsters, guns and violence.

The drug war has now become the bread and butter for millions in the enforcement/incarceration industries.

The exact same things happened during prohibition, bankrupting budgets nationwide.

Billions upon billions have been spent getting absolutely no results.

And by results I am referring to safer streets and less violence.

The facts remain, streets were safer and there was far less crime and violence before the warriors escalated the war into everyday mortal combat.

All of the gangsters, machine guns, drive-by's etc all fade into oblivion once the aggressors stopped their relentless, budget draining stranglehold on society.

In 1970 you could safely walk the streets of Schenectady at any hour of day or night without fear of being shot, killed, robbed or beaten.

So from an enforcement viewpoint, the drug war has crippled the city economically and made it a hundredfold more deadly and violent.

The war has destroyed families, driving up welfare costs, piling additional burden on the taxpayers, while taking away all services from them, and dumping football fields full of $100 bills into the hands of the enforcers and corrections personnel.

Free travel has become stop, frisk, search, hunt, target entire neighborhoods for removal from society at any cost.

Great fukken job.

We have more cops and prisoners than any other country on Earth.

History will someday look back and call this the worst period in American history, dwarfing even the death and violence of the civil war.

Society didn't become a war zone because of drug users, it became a war zone when the government declared war and started killing, confiscating, incarcerating and destroying families wholesale, giving birth to generations that understand nothing else besides guns, drugs, violence and death.

So, you can deny that a guy shot in a drive-by, then shot again ten years later as not drug war related, but every single gun on the streets is directly caused by the actions of law enforcement.

Somehow, you guys think that the laws of physics don't apply to bloodthirsty death and violence being dished out by law enforcement.

Thank God for the internet, where the collective consciousness of the country and the world sees that the real harm to society is the death and pillaging of society by the law enforcers themselves, and not by the actual drug users.

As the older generation dies off, the drug war will begin to cease to exist.

And you guys have the nerve to call yourselves peace officers.

The US police are just another gang, and are giving the Mexican police competition for the lead in the North American gangster championship.

Making peace is a billion times cheaper than perpetuating hatred on both sides, continuing to allow society to become collateral damage in your lucrative and racist drug war.

Peace officers, Not!

"Prohibition creates violence because it drives the drug market underground. This means
buyers and sellers cannot resolve their disputes with lawsuits, arbitration or advertising,
so they resort to violence instead.
Violence was common in the alcohol industry when it was banned during Prohibition, but
not before or after.
Violence is the norm in illicit gambling markets but not in legal ones. Violence is routine
when prostitution is banned but not when it’s permitted. Violence results from policies that
create black markets, not from the characteristics of the good or activity in question.

This murder could have been caused by an armed robbery and had nothing to do with drug laws, drug wars, etc.  The truth is you have no idea what caused this murder.  Unfortunately, there are murders in Schenectady - some have to do with drugs and some have to do with factors totally unrelated to drugs.

It's quite reasonable to question the wisdom of some of the country's drug laws.  It's silly to try and blame every act of violence to those laws.

And many people involved in the illicit drug market never resort to violence.

And I hardly need an education regarding the issue of illicit drugs from you.  The argument has been made more powerfully, thoughtfully, and accurately by many others.

Unfortunately, while the drug trade certainly has an effect on crime, Schenectady is now full of young men who will seek to settle some slight, real or imaginary, by killing the person who offended them. The victim in this case could merely have looked at someone funny.
