Here's to hoping that all the stuff about the Jay St fires stays there in the front in the news as election time gets closer.
Today in the news was that Gounaris guy (who is the new owner of the building that was inspected and the fire started) filing a complaint against the city claiming fire hydrants were not working correctly. He wouldn't comment on the news, nor would is attorney.
Neither of us can imagine the hydrants not working properly, but you have to wonder how the guy came up with that. He wasn't here during the fire. Did tenants say it? Perhaps he's twisting the story a bit.
I can't imagine the hydrants not working properly or adequately. I think just a disgruntled property owner who has lost a lot because of the city.
There was something else I noticed in a news report about city was holding some meeting with tenants to ask them questions, I wonder if the city is just trying to find out what the tenants have heard that the city knows to be true about where the city is at fault.
It's going to be a long time of parties suing each other.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

If what you say is true, then it sounds to me that Gounaris is trying to 'push back' against the city that is trying to paint him in a bad light.
The real issue is why the city is stonewalling FOIA requests for the inspection report.

I can tell you for a fact that the Town of Rotterdam has many fire Hydrants that are not working properly or don't have enough pressure. I witnessed a fire a few years ago where the pumper had to be hooked to the next hydrant nearly 800 feet away to get proper water volume/pressure.
So there is no doubt that this could very well be the case and if its true the fire department would have had to hook into the next closest "working" hydrant delaying the extinguishing of the fire, and possibly increasing the the amount of destruction cause that night.
AND.......we hear there were code violations reported...... re:fire protection/sprinklers.....and were they ever addressed? Did the landlord comply? Did the city recheck?

If there were complaints by the tenants of violations, reported previously, at either of the two buildings, made to the city, then there MUST be documentation of it in city hall AND documentation of inspections following such complaints AND yes, re-inspections.
Wonder if the FOIL (about the inspection just hours before) by news media was denied by the city because the city has to doctor up the reports and maybe photoshop the date stamps, etc rather than the city's claim of a criminal investigation.
