smelled gas , national grid came, gas leaking from oven knob area.
Thinking it might be cheaper to buy a new stove.
Anyone know who has the best deals.
Just a simple stove, no fancy gadgets : )

rp, I'm not sure any more who has the best deals, but if you go to the one on Broadway, or wherever, be sure to offer them less than the asking price. Sales don't really matter.

I haven't had a gas stove for awhile, but I think that gas repairs aren't good DIY projects. I've heard of people having small gas stove leaks fixed, but I don't know by whom, I just know they didn't do it. Is the stove in otherwise good condition? It may just be time to save yourself the trouble and get a new one.

A basic gas stove/oven from Home Depot starts around $400.

They will deliver it to your kitchen and take away the old one too.

Repairs would be a lot cheaper if you can pinpoint the bad part.

The smell comes from the oven knob?

Ovens have a safety valve that doesn't allow gas to flow if ignition fails or when the oven is not in use.

Does the oven knob area smell like it's leaking all the time, or only when in use.

Post the make and model number if you want to repair it yourself.

Stoves have very few parts and are usually pretty easy to diagnose, but you need the repair manual, which should be online for free.

Thanks for the info L4L, I wanted to do it myself, have fixed many other appliances by going to you tube, but any "electrical or gas" repairs I wouldn't
trust myself : )  Knob area leaked when not in use.

I did a search and found some good deals on stoves but over my limit right now, called a longtime app. guy in the area whose website says will come
to your home and give a free estimate, but he wouldn't come, diagnosed it over the phone and said $300 or more.

So found another company who didn't have to replace the thermostat (that's what was leaking) he just put some type of grease substance on it and
fired it up.

Called National Grid to do a re inspection and all is good.

Cost about $100 bucks.

Thanks for all who posted to help : )
