Nothing to say a municipality can't exceed the building code. Schenectady should get out there ahead of this important issue! People are quaking in fear, can I get a chicken cartoon here? The sky really IS falling! What if some guy from Rotterdam wanders onto this lady's property, and takes a step on the crumbling concrete? The humanity! Oh noooo!
UBC does not apply to the lady's steps, btw.

Are you saying that a crumbling concrete step without a handrail is a fire hazard?

Any reasonable person would know that I was not saying that crumbling concrete step without a handrail was a fire hazard.  The fact is that these code enforcement sweeps are looking for a wide variety of issues - some are fire hazards, others are safety hazards, some are health issues and some are some combination of fire, safety and health hazards.

Bottom line - the city is doing its job and is NOT singling out anyone.

Well, the argument could be made that the cops could trip on the unsafe steps when the court issues the warrant for the arrest of the elderly woman that doesn't make the mandated repairs, doesn't make her court appearance, and doesn't pay the fine.  Officer safety.

A reasonable person would know that a 73 year old woman on a fixed income doesn't have the building code manual in her file cabinet for quick reference, and has no f'ing idea she is out of code.  A reasonable person wouldn't have enforcement and police officers walk up to her home and cite her for violations and give her 45 days to fix them or face a court appearance and fine.  A reasonable person wouldn't expect a 73 year old woman on a fixed income, whose home value is at a level that there is no equity left in the property to finance home repairs, let alone get financing in 45 days.

That's the problem with you collectivist, you view "the city" as if it's a living thing.  And don't give a sh*t about the individuals hurt by the government policies that are supposedly meant to help "the city".

It has been stated over and over again - that these are warning citations and that the city will work with people to help resolve the issues.  It has been said over and over again - that there are agencies that will assist elderly people with home repairs.  It has been said over and over again - that after past code enforcement sweeps over 80% of the code issues cited were resolved WITHOUT EVER HAVING THE NEED TO END UP WITH A COURT APPEARANCE OR A FINE.   Bottom line - the city is NOT the bad guy here .. the city is just doing its job.  No one is the bad guy -- unless of course it is some scummy slum lord who will refuse to make any effort to comply.

Frankly - with you -- I am torn between whether you can't understand simple English and reasonable, rational statements -- or whether -- you just choose to NOT understand.

Oh yes they are.   They are singling out themselves!

Now, DV, what have YOU got to say, since the city is NOT fixing up the houses they own nor are they fixing roads

The new Galesi built DSS building had plaster falling off of it for many MONTHS.  It was certainly in that condition for more than 45 days.  The city didn't seem in a hurry to fix that death trap.  Just some caution tape and some road cones to redirect foot traffic.

It- that there are agencies that will assist elderly people with home repairs.

DV, do you comprehend what you read???????

There are only 1,221 possible elderly homeowners who could be helped,

Now, tell us please what about the younger people, people with children to support (you wouldn't know about that), people in Schenectady the vast majority of them have total household incomes of under $40,000, and they are paying 6, 7, 8 thousand in taxes.  They are struggling to make their mortgage payments, pay utility bills, feed themselves and their children, clothe especially the children, make the car payment, gas, insurance and maintenance on the car, make the homeowners insurance payment.  Tell me how they can put money away for their children's education.  Tell us how they can put money away for retirement for themselves?   But then, since you are not an adult yet, you don't have a wife (no woman would want you anyway). no children, you don't own a house, and you are not a taxpayer, then you don't have any comprehension whatsoever what the real world is like; truthfully you never will either.  Your lack of ability to be a NORMAL self sufficient adult will put you at risk of being unable to take care of yourself in old age, when you no longer have two mommies to support you and feed you, and change your diaper.     Just kind of curious, how come you moved in with your two aunties instead of living with your birth parents once you became an adult age (by the calendar), did mom and dad tell you to move out and become an adult?

These people are paying their own taxes PLUS the taxes of the mayor's millionaire cronies, PLUS they are paying for the demo of the old DSS building owned by the McCarthy's billionaire crony Galesi, PLUS they are paying to build/remodel all of downtown.

You won't face the facts, DV.

IF you really have us on ignore, it's only because you are too embarrassed to read the TRUTH that is provided WITH EVIDENCE.

Bur most likely you PRETEND to have us on ignore  and because  you are too embarrassed to acknowledge the truth -- that I am right and you are  wrong, you just won't even answer my direct questions.
