From the Gazette

Quoted Text
More and more children have been born into poverty in the last four years in Schenectady, pushing the poverty rate for young children to nearly 50 percent.

McCarthy must be so proud.   Add that to his legacy (which already boasts an annual falling city tax base, the city with the 2nd highest over-assessed houses, the ever increasing taxes combined with reductions of city services, falling home sales, falling home sale prices)

Quoted Text
In Bellevue, 52 percent of the young children ... are living in poverty. The Union Street neighborhoods, often seen as containing some of the most affluent parts of the city, have a 41 percent poverty rate for young children.

Obviously this proves people of middle incomes are fleeing the city in massive droves  (PROVEN by the numbers of nice homes which are for sale and empty), leaving these families in poverty which is causing the poverty rate to increase.

McCarthy's past four years = the best 4 years in Schenectady's recent history and the unfolding of a tremendous RENAISSANCE of optimism and renewal spreading from Downtown out into the neighborhoods of our beloved City-County of Schenectady.

Obviously spoken by someone with a serious mental illness, very delusional.   When EVIDENCE shows that poverty has risen DRAMATICALLY under a mayor in power, and someone comes out and says that the mayor is doing a wonderful job in causing the poverty rate to rise (and the people to lose their homes, etc), the person saying that is seriously mentally unbalanced, probably looking for attention.  God help those homeless families that he is supposedly going to take care of.

90% of Schenectady school district children are enrolled in the Federal school lunch program... I think that pretty much says it all.

DV is too delusional to explain why poverty in the city under this mayor has risen so much, while city homeowners have and are losing their homes, while the mayor works to squeeze more money out of the taxpayers to give to his millionaire cronies.

And McCarthy's "success" is bleeding into Rotterdam... Altamont Ave for the most part is now "Ghetto"...it joins Hamburg St with this honor... The only decent part of town is over the thruway bridge on Guilderland Ave, the Schalmont side of five corners, and Colonial manor...

Look....i'm no fan of mcmayor....but really....is HE responsible for the BIRTH of children now?
impoverished people are that way for many reasons...lack of jobs, lack of education or unable to learn, disabilities and yes just plain laziness.

we know impoverished folks who live in the city who are at their highest level of learning (can't go any higher)and are hard working minimum wage workers. You could send them to the best school/college and throw all kinds of money at them....ain't gonna help.
if they chose to procreate....is that mcmayor's responsibility?
just askin'

I guess the fact that people in the city have lost their homes, thus losing assets, because they had their money stolen from them to give to billionaire GAlesi has nothing to do with these people slipping into poverty.

Mayor increases their taxes to give the money to his downtown millionaires, people can't afford their taxes, they lose their homes, they lose an asset, their credit is ruined, and don't forget that most landlords today require a credit check and actually many employers require credit checks today so people can't get jobs easily because they lost their homes due to being unable to pay the taxes of McCarthy's downtown millionaires.

When people buy a home and they see they can afford it, they expect a mayor will work for them, NOT to increase their taxes in order to give tax exemptions to super wealthy political cronies.

two choices.....either walk away....or stay and stop pissin' and moanin'.

Cause anyone with a 1/2 a brain can see that NOTHING is going to change.....not in our lifetime....no matter how young or old.

HONESTLY.....MOST folks in the city are not concerned one single bit about who is and/or isn't tax exempt!!!!!
When you tell 'em....ya just get the deer in the headlight look and on to the next subject!!!
And that is MOST city folk!!!

So ya either have folks who KNOW but do nothing....and the other half DON'T KNOW and don't care!!

No sympathy here.

The problem is that all this is spreading to Rotterdam.   We need to stop it from spreading.   Maybe people in the city don't care, but we care about our future, we should not have to ever leave and/or take a loss because of the city leaders who are taking OUR money and giving it to the millionaires downtown.

All the towns in the county have a stake in seeing the city improve and it's not going to improve with all the corruption by the city leaders.  .

No one should ever be in a poverty because they cannot get a job because their credit rating is shot because they lost their home because McCarthy and his buddies stole money from the taxpayers and gave it to the millionaires in return for kick backs.

That's why yesterday's story in the TU about the millions in tax breaks to this billionaire should have included the Gazette story about the increase in poverty in the city and also include the list of all the lavish political donations McCarthy and the rest of his buddies got, along with the numbers off the assessment roll showing how the tax base has fallen,   People read stories months apart and don't make the connection.

then your issue is with the folks who are in charge in ROTTENdam....not the city of Schenectady.

and fair warning here......ya better sell if you live in ROTTENdam NOW.....cause it ain't gonna get better....I PROMISE!

so now YOU know.....let's see if you are going to be living in ROTTENdam 10 years from now and still bit@hing.

we should expect to see your home up for sale within a month, since you do appear to be more informed.

the city folk were informed 10 years ago and they just sat on their bit@hing a$$.
