by train, still seems unreal.  Many wished me well on the "vacation" but it was anything but. Realized when we got off the train at Penn Station and we
were in front of the line and my Dad coud'n't understand why we had to go up the escalator. He got almost halfway up. lost his balance and somehow I
held him and screamed for help, they stopped the escalator and a man helped me get his footing, another got his dropped bags.

Without going into detail the majority of the trip was a BIG mistake. I thought I could do this for my Dad but it was too much for him and ended up way too much for me. I've been home a week and still recuperating.

Alzhiemers is a HORRIBLE disease.

Anyways heres a pic of my Dad (he's on the left) with my Aunt and Uncle who saw us off on the train to come back to NY.

Sorry to hear your trip sucked, at least you tried, there's something to be said for that.

I took my in-laws with us several years ago because they had not been in decades, and if we had not insisted I don't think they would have gotten back there, EVER! It was tough they don't travel well, my father in-law hates closed spaces like airplanes, and has degenerative disc issues so he can't sit for long periods.

But with all of these difficulties I think they really appreciated the time spent with us and the grand kids and I think you should look at it that way too. Family members are not here forever and any time spent together is well spent. Not a week goes by when I don’t wish I have a few more moments with my grandparents, and feel remiss for not spending more time years ago.

Yes RP Alzheimers is tough- sorry

I have taken my mom on a number of train trips. She is still sharp mentally but her body is wearing out- So I look at it like Im carrying a carton of eggs.

We took the train from here to Niagara Falls ( bring your passprt ) spent the night - it was excellent-

The best trip was going from San Diego Ca to Seattle Wa. Its overnight so I got the roomette  which has two beds like bunk beds that fold down at night.  Lucky my mom still has all her marbles because she absolutely loved looking out the window- its like TV.
The price included 3 meals in the dining car or delivered to your little 'roomette ' .
