No - but what is your excuse for being so confused?

my quote: "GE and ALCO are both PRIVATE SECTOR CORPORATIONS which were financed by PRIVATE SECTOR INVESTMENT through the 19th Century and most  (if not all) of the 20th century ."
GE did NOT get "corporate welfare" during the 19th century ... the Erie Canal was built with $7 million (100% of the cost of construction) of government money and run by the government during the same period.  GE did NOT get "corporate welfare" in the early 20th century .. while the Erie Canal was completely rebuilt with $90 million (100% of the construction cost) of government running during the same time period.  --- and then it was YOU who bemoaned that GE committed suicide by inventing new infrastruture and caused the GOVERNMENT FINANCED and GOVERNMENT RUN canal to "collapse."    THOSE WERE YOUR WORDS.  YOU ARE THE ONE THAT IS CRITICIZING A PRIVATELY FINANCED AND PRIVATELY RUN COMPANY FOR CAUSING A GOVERNMENT FINANCED AND GOVERNMENT RUN CANAL TO "COLLAPSE."

Oh -- and GE is still in Schenectady .. still investing in its plant here.

Yawn>

GE makes over $15 Billion a year in profit, and they are famous, I mean infamous, for paying next to nothing in taxes.

They have very little interest in Schenectady, because:

1. The outrageous taxes.

2. The comparatively high labor costs.

3. The location. Schenectady has no strategic advantage as a manufacturing location. Some gigantic machinery left behind is suitable for projects to keep the place busy as they fend off closing the plant and the monstrous price tag that would come with it.

4. The environmental cleanup nightmare that they know will someday they will be forced to perform. The only reason GE is here at all is because they would be in court for cleanup costs if they left.

5. GE is evolving into a non-manufacturing business. GE makes much more than half of it's sales from exchanging money for credit. GE Moneybank is their leading product. GE has recognized that they can, because of government regulation, make more profit for a lot less money and effort than manufacturing actual products.

You claim GE is still investing in in the main plant.

Even though it has been in a condition of downsizing, reducing the labor force, reducing the number of buildings, and using their teams of lawyers to get deals on their taxes, for over 4 decades.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate GE, or feel that they knowingly caused massive environmental damage.(mostly)

I feel the city has no chance of getting a handout from GE, in the form of some serious manufacturing jobs.

The government is not responsible for GE withdrawing it's occupying forces from the main plant.

Cheaper labor and shipping is available pretty much in 90% of the world other than the US.

No EPA and fewer, or sometimes even non-existent labor laws.

If GE were investing in Schenectady, you would see manufacturing growth and new jobs regularly.

A skeleton crew to keep the environmental cleanup away is all we will ever see.

GE has absolutely nothing to do with the outrageous spending and taxation from the local government, who learned nothing from all the corporate welfare they wasted on a favored corporation that puts profit above all else.

A quarter of a billion dollars has been funneled into downtown in the past 40 years, It's in a state of perpetual shovel ready ideas to make the rich, wealthier, and ready to take away properties that they can't even afford to demolish.

That sounds fair,

a quarter of a billion dollars so some blogger can come on Amtrak to visit a tiny fraction of the city and give a good review.

All they know is tax and spend.

Now the city is hoping to make more money than just from the property owners, they want Casino revenue and they are foaming at the mouth, so they can escalate their spending.

Heaven forbid they ever even hint at tax reduction for anyone except corporations.

You aren't freeloading.

You paid taxes just like everyone else.

The tax collectors and the overpaid and over benefited government employees that they finance, are the freeloaders.

Aww c'mon, I've been having fun with that. Now you're going to spoil it for me. LOL

LOL. Ok, if that's the way you want it, I guess I'll hie myself down to Social Services and sign up for that free food, rent and cell phones I keep hearing about. Why not? I don't have to pay for it. I will ask if I can have all the free stuff taken out of mc1's pocket though. Wouldn't that be cool if you could specify one individual to have your freebies taken from. Hmmmm.

Nah...collective theft seems to work just fine.  If one person is robbed, they may consider it a crime.  If you steal from a collection of people based on their productivity, they don't feel as if they were robbed and passively accept it.  You just need more people that want to steal than those that don't want to be robbed, and those being robbed can't do anything about it.  If you have a majority of freeloaders, the freeloaders can actually empower the government to steal from the haves in order to pay for the guns that is used to stick them up.

Don't specify Sissy, cuz you'll be paying out of your pocket to make up the deficit!

Nah...he won't have to pay out of his pocket.  He can instruct the government to tax my home to pay the difference.  If I can't pay the taxes they just take my home to make up the difference.  My home is probably to big and too much of my labor is going toward a house.  More if my labor needs to go toward funding freeloader programs.

Oh, designating a specific person for freeloadin' would just be for spite. Think of it, don't like your neighbor, think he's better off than you, well the gubmint could specify that neighbor as your "angel" so to speak.

Oh, and I'm conflicted again here, since some seem to think I'm a freeloader, while others seem to think not. So I'll just use a hashtag from now on #freeloadin'/non-freeloadin'/socialist/non-socialisthealthcare.

Day off Cicero, or are you freeloadin' your employer's bandwidth to post here?

No, unfortunately I have to pay for a data plan.  Do you know of anyway I can get somebody else to pay for it?  Maybe take some money from the rich, or maybe even smokers...Yeah, smokers should be taxed more to help pay for my data plan.  Smokers shouldn't be smoking anyways, so taking a little more money from them is good for smokers anyways.  That would be helpful if you could give me some direction on this.  Then I can afford to pay more toward other freebies for other people.

I like the smokers idea. I think you should pursue it further. Maybe contact the legislators you voted for.

Oh, wait, sorry, I forgot.

Can't do it on my own man...this is a democratic action.  We need to join forces and convince a majority to take from smokers for the entitlements we want.  A call to a legislator won't help.  We need a sustained campaign to destroy the reputation of smokers and we have to become victims of corporate GREED and over priced data plans.  We can make this a campaign against corporate greed, the "rich" AND saving smokers from their own vices.

Man, this is so much easier than working and worrying about paying for my own sh*t.  Maybe we can chat IM and formulate our plan.
