People probably have a genuine appreciation regarding the downtown improvements. Still, like others have already said - there is also resentment regarding large companies receiving tax breaks to make it happen.  I understand the need to have leverage to attract the businesses, but, that is not going to make the residents feel completely positive about  the arrangement.  The faster things can be improved in the neighborhood - the better people will feel about the city.

They surveyed Metroplex and everyone who is involved with Proctors and came up with an unbiased survey.

Usually an entity that commisions a survey will only do so if they have a good idea of it resulting in favorable results for that entity.

Siena should have asked questions like

"Do you support low and middle income people paying the property taxes of the millionaires downtown?"
"Do you support reduction of the city's tax base resulting from downtown?"
"Do you support the downtown even though it caused massive reduction in home values?"
"Do you support the new downtown even though many homeowners have lost their homes due to inability to pay the taxes of Galesi and the rest of the millionaires?"

Obviously most people don't have a clue.   Unfortunately the people read the stories in the paper such as the mayor claiming "almost 100%" of the houses in his program sold, but the people fail to do their own research to verify his comments, which of course, we all know is a big lie, and the EVIDENCE has proven the mayor a liar.

Driving out taxpayers and taking homes faster than you can afford to even demolish them to gain a dozen corporations is not a sustainable action.

They should be looking for actual taxpayers to draw to the city.

Small businesses have been devastated by the breaks given to the rich investors.

Schenectady flourished back when all businesses competed on an equal footing.

The city management has regulated neighborhood businesses out of existence and continues to target the remaining neighborhood businesses for eradication even on the few remaining commercial streets. Crane Street has less than a dozen businesses left and the city is targeting nearly half of them with harassment code sweeps to force them out.

The businesses don't cause crime. Crime and illegal black market sales are a symptom of poverty.

Closing the stores won't change the local crime, it will increase it, as more people will need to find new ways to make money.

Do you think it's proper for a tax deadbeat who illegally had a second STAR exemption to render decisions on grievances by homeowners over their assessments?
DO you think it's proper for a political crony tax deadbeat do say "denied, insufficient data" when people grieve their assessments and present 100 houses with lower sale prices than their assessment value?   Oh, you don't understand this because you are not a taxpayer

Reduced city services to the taxpayers in the neighborhoods is an improvement?

Record high numbers of tax foreclosures, people losing their homes, is an improvement?

Falling home sales and falling home sale prices is an improvement?

A falling tax base is an improvement?

People losing tons of money on their homes due to falling property values is an improvement?


Do you really support continuing the momentum for reducing the city's tax base, the momentum of increasing the tax foreclosures, continue the momentum of people fleeing the city in droves?

ANYONE can disagree/agree with views lacking the how/why....most folks don't have the time/energy to delve into the
'ALL IMPORTANT GOVERNMENT BUSINESS'.....because only godhead/government knows what is right and the government
will ALWAYS attempt to make the majority's opinion seem validated in a disingenuous way.

it is of my opinion that the government does NOT make things easily understood by the common folks on purpose.
the tax code being one, and ANYTHING ELSE a government/legislator/lawyer can write up in a contract/bill/regulation/mandation
so that the plebs are left out.....a slave is not privy to it's masters finances and neither is an indentured servant.
