Mistake on the Town Calendar:  Closed in observance of President's Day
Monday, February 16, 2015, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Legally, the holiday is Washington's Birthday pursuant to Uniform Monday Holiday Act (Pub.L. 90–363) which passed in both houses of Congress and then was signed into law on June 28, 1968 and took effect on January 1, 1971.

Grammatically, the holiday should be "Presidents Day" if it were honoring, which it is not,  more than one or all U.S. Presidents.

Look at you, trying to make yourself look smart, something you are not.  Who the hell cares when the days were designated as such.  Obviously you had to look up those facts.   Congratulations, you can do research and find facts.

Now how about you research and look up the facts about your claim that county taxes are lower now than in the 1970's.  Oh you won't do that because you are wrong about that claim, and a number of us who are taxpayers have told you taxes have gone up substantially since 1970, so obviously you know that we are right and you are wrong, thus you avoid commenting on your LIE.

And, um, YOU are also grammatically WRONG.  YOU said that if it was "....if it were honoring, which it is not,  more than one or all U.S. Presidents." then it should be Presidents Day.   But YOU are WRONG.   If those conditions were met (more than one or all...) then it would be Presidents' Day.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.

speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Once again, YOU are the one who is wrong.  When writing Presidents Day, Veterans Hospital, Teachers Conference, etc  the word preceding the noun (in the above examples -- day, hospital and conference) is a noun used as an attributive adjective.  That is long-accepted good English grammar.

So, today, though the federal holiday is marked on the third Monday in February, there is no agreed-upon name,
no universal agreement on who is being celebrated, and the use of the apostrophe in the name is varied: Sometimes
it isn’t used at all (as in Presidents Day), sometimes it is placed between the last two letters (President’s Day) and
sometimes it is after the last letter  (Presidents’ Day).

The proper way to write it in English is Presidents Day.  Though that it is irrelevant since the LEGAL name (by virtue of a federal law) of the holiday is George Washington's Birthday.   You need only look at the official and proper use of other similar word combinations:  Veterans Day, Department of Veterans Administration, Veterans Hospital, veterans benefits, farmers market, teachers conference, etc.
Sadly, "common misuse" of English grammar (such as Presidents' Day or President's Day) is a difficult thing to overcome.

You obviously didn't read the article!
Let me help you again with the important statement:

So there are 3 "TOTALLY CORRECT and PROPER ENGLISH" ways to identify the day!

You seem to have a short fuse.

First, I did read it and don't agree with the conclusions drawn by the article.  All of my English teachers have held the same view.  Furthermore, I have read numerous other articles that specifically state a different view -- that the PROPER ENGLISH usage is Presidents Day, Veterans Day, etc.  There is much documentation including but not limited to English Grammar textbooks.   For example, the Federal law which created Veterans Day specifically spelled it that way - WITHOUT ANY APOSTROPHES.  The Federal law which established the Department of Veterans Affairs did the same thing -- WITHOUT ANY APOSTROPHES.

Second, you must have missed the part the part where I stated that the "Presidents Day" does  NOT legally exist as a Federal holiday -- nor does it exist as a New York holiday.  The Federal holiday observed on the 3 Monday in February is, by law,  George Washington's Birthday.

It all boils down to the noun - "Presidents" or "Veterans" being an Attributive Adjective .. AND to whoever placed the information on the town website actually realizing that official and legal name for the February holiday, on the 3rd Monday of that month, as determined by Federal law is George Washington's Birthday. George Washington's Birthday (February 22) was established, by law, as a Federal holiday on January 31, 1879. A law (Monday Holiday Law) passed by Congress and signed into law by President Lyndon Baines Johnson in 1968 moved George Washington's Birthday to the 3rd Monday of February starting in 1970.  The Congress nor the President has EVER stipulated that the name of the holiday be changed to Presidents Day.

No short fuse...you just let your arrogance get in the way.
If you understand PROPER ENGLISH as you state, then you
must understand that either of the 3 given CORRECT versions is
totally PROPER depending on usage...but you must
simply be right, regardless of facts.

If you back up a minute, in no way did I say you were wrong...I
only clarified that there are multiple methods that are ACCEPTABLE, CORRECT and PROPER
based on application.

Wondering if you ever admit there are other correct "anything"
other than YOUR WAY!!! Based on your postings and position
on planning debates, the answer is DVOR'sWAY ONLY!!!

Ah, so when it was a day only celebrating our first president, then it was Washingtons Birthday

If I have one son, it's "my son's birthday"
If I have twins, it's "my sons' birthday"

Graduation, it's "my son's special day"
Graduation of my twin sons I would say it's "my sons' special day."

President's Day = one president
Presidents' Day = more than one.

But then someone with two mommys or is it two mommies would get confused, yes?

And "once again" I'm wrong?   Gee, what else I am I wrong about?     Am I wrong about county taxes are higher now than in the 1970s when YOU claimed they are lower than in the 1970s?    Am I wrong about saying the city tax base is massively falling?   Am I wrong about home values falling?   Am I wrong about the mass exodus from the city--all the people putting their homes up for sale--beautiful homes that don't sell after a year or two?   Well, you won't state what I am allegedly wrong about.   And you REFUSE to provide any EVIDENCE that you are correct in your claim that the city is improving.

Do you even bother reading other posts in a topic other than yours and DVOR's,
or like DVOR, you must have your say, regardless?
