might be the name change was needed as to the perception that "price chopper = high cost" in many peoples eyes...

agree BT.......don't shop there anymore...find that another competitor is better and their product is superior....

now they will have offers for 32 cents....and put the 32 cents on another product/s and no one will notice...just like the buy 2 get 1 free...

mot importantly,  other competitors have people who have learned how to be customer oriented.... ...

Saw this on FB this morning. Just another example of how Price Chopper treats their employees. Oh the stories I could tell.

Quoted Text
Please help Sadie from Price Chopper. I was just in the Rotterdam, NY Price Chopper and the long term night cashier Sadie was visually upset. I asked Sadie what was wrong and she said after over forty years of service she is being forced out. Though I don't know Sadie's age she is easily eighty years old and has worked the overnight shift as far back as I can remember. We are talking decades. Sadie told me that her new supervisor told her that if she didn't retire and go gracefully she would be terminated. Sadie broke her pelvis about 18 months ago and after it healed she was back to work. According to Sadie she was told that because she needs a shopping cart to lean on while cleaning she wasn't performing her duties properly. Sadie has said that she loves her job and she is absolutely heart broken that she has to leave Price Chopper. Sadie has been like the neighborhood grandmother to many over the years and has helped countless numbers of people while asking nothing in return. Sadie has earned the right to continue working her job until she decides it is time to retire.

Sadie is probably sitting on nearly $1 million in Golub stock and 401k. If she's been there 40+ years, then she was there when employees were getting company stocks.  Sadie isn't going to go hungry if she retires or is let go.

Some people need a sense of purpose/usefulness to get up everyday other than counting their money.   Look at Bill Gates.   He could retire and enjoy the sun on a beach and do nothing.   But this is not what made him "tick",resting on his laurels.   Even he needs a good reason to get up each day, hence his charitable endeavors.   He probably still looks to improve his product even though he does not need the money.

There are 18 year olds that want a job too.  And not to sound uncaring, but 18 year olds that can perform 100% of the job duties.  I'm not a fan of Golub, but for business in general, that is why they have retirement packages, so people can transition out of their jobs and younger people get an opportunity to begin earning money and saving for their retirement.  If people want employers to employ people that cannot perform their jobs just so they have a purpose, then don't complain about high prices.
