Saratoga County Deputy Shawn Glans had no idea he was being recorded as he tried to intimidate a man into allowing him to search his car, which is why he slapped him on the back of his head while yanking the keys out of his hand, tossing them to another deputy who searched the man's car and found nothing illegal.

But he does know now after Adam Roberts uploaded the video to Facebook where it began going viral Friday.

In a Facebook message interview with Photography is Not a Crime, Roberts explained that he and his buddy, Colin Fitch, who owns the car, had parked it at a business that was closed and walked to a nearby party Thursday night. They didn’t spend much time at the party but when they walked back to the car, they were confronted by deputies who had spotted a rifle in the back seat and wanted to search the car.

Firth had purchased a .22 rifle earlier that day and had left it in the back seat, Roberts said. When Deputy Glans asked to search the car, Fitch would not give him permission, insisting he had done nothing illegal.

Unfortunately, that slapping part was not caught on video, but the sound of the slap is loud and clear. But he followed it up by making more threats, proving to be the real a**hole.

As they were searching the car, Firth showed them his receipt for the gun and they allowed him to leave.

I saw reference to this stop without the specifics this morning.

Henry - you left one thing out - huge civil litigation cost - clear 4th Amendment violation - termination, imprisonment, and cut the guy a huge check - cannot believe the stupidity and arrogance.

Do police just walk up to random parked vehicles and look inside for rifles?

Another satisfied customer.  Another "public servant" boasting about the level of violence they are willing to escalate to if you do not comply with their unlawful commands.  Ripping you head off and shitting down your neck is literally a death threat.  Police state USA coming to a town near you.  Welcome them with open arms, if you don't, they will break your arms.

Attitude and arrogance?  It was assault and battery.  This cop should be sitting in a jail cell.

here we go...

http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2014/nov/08/saratoga-county-deputy-suspended/

A Saratoga County Sheriff's Department deputy has been suspended without pay as the department investigates his conduct during a Nov. 7 roadside investigation.

The conduct was captured in a video which has been posted online.

Richard Castle, chief of the sheriff's department, issued a press release this morning indicating the department Friday night learned of the video "which appeared to show an inappropriate interaction between an on-duty member of the Sheriff’s Office and a civilian during a roadside interview resulting from a suspicious vehicle complaint in the town of Halfmoon in the early hours of November 7th."

The press release did not identify the officer but did say he had been suspended without pay effective immediately pending the outcome of the investigation and possible disciplinary action.

"The Sheriff’s Office takes matters such as this very seriously and we do not in any way condone anything less than professional behavior from our members. We wish to thank the members of the community who brought this to light and cooperated fully with the investigation," the press release said.

This is the same guy who paralyzed and blinded a man while crashing into him head on doing triple the speed limit, his name is Shawn Glans, not sure why they didn't want to release his name, this story and his name is being spread quick online.

Yup that is it, hopefully with this video this will be the last time he ever wears a badge again and is allowed to carry a firearm, I would also like to find out who the other deputy was, he sat there and did nothing while this guy clearly abused his power, to me that makes him just as guilty.

this is the way the behavior is with the law these days...and it all comes from what is put in TV these days...all violence and crime....

professionalism is a thing of the past.....talking in that language is "power" to some.....and that is not how anyone should be treated..

one thing I might add.....whenever you have a rifle or shotgun.....IN THE TRUNK IT GOES.......that's common sense.....even the law carries these

weapons in the trunk of the vehicle....and don't go crazy with feedback on this statement.....anyone who hunts knows this....

and yes ...everyone is beyond suspicious these days......and there is no control from the law for this......and then, I don't blame them...

would any of you want to have the law as a profession???....

and yes, this cop was suspended and WITHOUT PAY for a change........and yes...sue....and yes...he should get punishment for his uncivilized actions...
