McCarthy has the same sorry lame duck exucse every single year! We raise taxes because people are not paying! Wake up you fool people can't affrord to pay the taxes if you keep giving the police department $1 million dollar every year and the rich dowtown developers tax exemptions!  McCarthy repeatedly puts the blame on the city residents / property owners for the tax increases he doesn't take full resposibilty for his policies and actions. Get out of the real estate business McCarthy your doing yourself more harm than good! Crime is up the police chief must be smoking evidence locker room crack! Look around you the shootings and stabbings in the city is rampant! I have a suggestion why don't Gary McCarthy take a pay cut and the Police chief and his staff take a pay cut to help close the budget gap! If they were true leaders they would do so. But they are greedy culprits who just want to get paid! # VOTE THEM OUT/ FIRE THEM

Bwahahaha!!! There's a better chance of ice skating in Central Park in July than this ever happening.

I can't wait to hear his excuse on this one. LOL

Easier for the Mayor to blame homeowners then hold out for a better tax deal from the county. Don't want to make his boss mad.

In relation to the tax cap, the state says:

Quoted Text
A Citizen’s Guide to the Property Tax Cap
The tax cap limits a local government’s (e.g. city, town, village, various special districts and school districts) overall growth in the property tax levy to 2 percent or the rate of inflation, whichever is less.

The TU story reads:

Quoted Text
Property taxes would rise by 3 percent next year for city homeowners under Mayor Gary McCarthy's proposed budget that calls for $1 million boost to the understaffed police department while staying under the state tax cap.

And this it what it says in the budget document itself:

Quoted Text
Tax Levy increase of 3.02% resulting in a Tax Rate increase of 2.91%

The state limits the increase in the tax levy to 2%, McThief proposes an increase in the tax levy to 3.02% and claims that is within the cap?

This a** of a governor started using this buzzword(s) of "tax cap" obviously to make people think he is keeping taxes in check but the simplified definition of the tax cap, clearly McThief is not staying within the cap.

I know there's  myriad of increases in a school budget that are exempt from the cap.  Wish we had a simple explanation what, if any, exemptions to a city (or county for that matter).

So can McThief explain why the increase in the tax levy exceeds what the state allow?   But I guess if he doesn't mention it and people must be so ignorant, they can really do anything

Change the system to what?

What system of government would you like to see implemented that will solve the issues you're complaining about?

"We're in the real estate business whether we like it or not". I hope you caught that, M/C. You are the one who brought it to the public's attention that he's running a real estate business, and he's aware that people are catching on to him. Good work. Don't let the mockery get to you. This is important.
To whom it may concern: I pay my taxes, and I am not stupid. I am also not a freeloader. Paying taxes is not the problem, the problem is that the taxes are too damn high. That was not always the case, it is not a fact of life, and therefore it can be changed. I do not recall the taxes being raised to confiscatory levels when the present Democratic machine was not in place, therefore to say that the Republicans would do the exact same thing is meaningless conjecture, about as valid as gazing into a crystal ball.
Some people in my neighborhood have a house they recently purchased up for sale already. It's too bad, they weren't tricked by McCheese and the Band of Sleaze, but they apparently got duped into buying a house they couldn't afford. You can't trust the information you see in the papers, or on television, or even what some bankers and realtors will tell you. It is a good thing that M/C is studying this issue, piecing it together, comparing notes, and getting the word out. Over and over.

Proposed by the mayor.  Of course, what does that figure out to be after the math is done tossing all the high assessed downtown properties owned by millionaires into the mix? Gee, 3% increase in city taxes proposed by the DEMS. 2% increase in county taxes proposed by the DEMS.

Another Cuomo tax cap buster! Keep the implosion going. They will cut it to 2.99 after hard work. Don't forget the worst schools in the region which also busted Gov Cuomo's
tax cap. The cap does not apparently apply to DEM machine controlled City's where the residents "understand the importance of high taxes". At the least the DEMs are running
Lumpy and an undertaker for City Council. Just what we need to give the City a proper burial.

And the city could take that $700,000 and use it to pave roads in the NEIGHBORHOODS where the TAXPAYERS live, the city could use that money for better snowplowing, like actually declare a snow emergency, do you realize that the snow emergency code was put into place under a republican mayor, it was declared many times and NEVER, NOT ONCE have the democrap mayors declared a snow emergency, instead the prefer to leave snow banks out in the road, forcing people to weave in and out rather than pushing snow back to the curb on one side and then doing it the next day on the other side.   No, the demoraps have to spend money on precious downtown and their millionaires who do not pay taxes and do NOT live IN the city.

So of course, the city has found itself in the real estate business both to deal with/sell all the houses of the long time residents who could no longer afford the taxes and lost their house AND spending taxpayer money to bribe people to buy a house IN the city--bribing with taxpayer handouts to cover costs of a down payment and cover the closing costs.

abolishing the METROPLEX/GILLEN.
have a REAL PLAN to lower taxes.
NO MORE friends and family club.

Oh the system can and should be changed....but all you hear is bitching and crickets!
