. I suggest that you go study basic economics before you return to this debate.
Yeah, study economics. How about the economics of the taxpayers. Economics does NOT support taxing homeowners so high that they lose their homes. Economics does NOT support families with incomes of $40,000 paying the taxes of billionaires as a means to get a city to improve.
Economics would NEVER NEVER support wild uncontrolled spending of taxpayer money such that the tax base of a city goes into MASSIVE FREE FALL which is EXACTLY what has been happening to Schenectady in the past half decade. Obviously DV, you do NOT pay attention to the real news, such as all the real estate reports that show both home sales AND home sale prices increasing all over the place (since the end of the real estate "crisis") but in Schenectady it is WORSE THAN under that country wide crisis !!!!!
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
That's economic voodoo. If the products made in USA are more affordable, then it would make sense to buy it. But if it cost more, then all you are doing is unnecessarily spending more money in one sector of the economy and taking it out of another. If I spend $900 dollars on gifts that otherwise would have cost $800, then there is $100 that I do not have to spend in other areas of the economy, like going out to dinner or going to a movie.
If everybody bought American, we would quickly see how broke we are. With cheap chinese labor building iPhones in conditions that require suicide nets outside the windows, the American lifestyle is unsustainable. Other societies force people to produce to the point of suicide, so American consumers can have their smartphone AND do very little work in comparison to pay for it.
Sounds like the TYPICAL excuse from someone who is a chronic complainer but NOT willing to actually change his or her behavior to improve things. So YOU HAVE NO ONE TO BLAME BUT YOURSELF for the loss of manufacturing jobs and the economic situation. When you come around to your senses -- or IF you come around to your senses -- you will realize that YOU can be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.
Again -- here is the challenge to everyone -- This year, ONLY purchase Christmas/Hanukkah decorations and presents that are made in the U.S.A. Send a message to retailers and investors -- Put money INTO the U.S. economy to grow jobs -- be a part of the solution and not part of the problem.

I wish people could see big picture.....Cuomo is pushing casinos as these shady casino operators donate to him and he needs money to run for president (good luck with that)....
In 10 years if there is a casino in Schenectady....
Money has been diverted from downtown restaurants and Proctors to people who'd rather eat at the casino buffet and see REO Speedwagon there. ......
But there is only so much money to go around ... Pawn shops pop up so people can hock goods to play at the casino .... High rollers shy away from the casino because of the riff raff ........ Did casinos help Detroit???? Have you seen "Hardcore Awn?"
