I know they don't have much of a shot but I like the idea of Howe's Cave NY hosting the casino that is proposed for this region. No one from outside this region would go to Greenbush or Schenectady just to lose money ... the casinos would then get desperate and take entertainment dollars from Proctors, Capital Rep, etc. etc., and food dollars from local restaurants in attempting to be "more" than just a casino. It's suicide. But Howe's is well known in NYC and people could come up and make a weekend of visiting. A little gambling, see the caves, go to the halls of fames in the area. ...... and it is far enough away without harming our economy in the Capital Region.... |

I do t like the idea myself. Howe's is a family attraction. Schools go there. No way would I even bring my kids to a casino and I don't think it would go over well with most parents. |

I would hope they wouldn't bring their kids to a casino regardless of where it is. But Howe's Cavern is a place where people bring their kids. If they get a casino it will no longer be a place to bring a child I don't think most gamblers care what the location of the casino is like. They're not going to tour the town. Often they don't leave the building once they are inside. |

Families do vacation with their children at Niagara Falls where there are 2 prominent casinos. Howes Caves would not be that much different for vacationing families. Look at all the children with their parents exposed to gambling at the Saratoga Flat track. Thats how they make sure the next generation of gamblers is nurtured/cultivated. Handed off to the next generation. |

Yeah, it is not like they are going to put slot machines next to stalagmites. ....... Just saying, people outside this region know about Howe's but they don't have any reason to come to Greenbush or Schenectady.... There are casinos all around NYC, but there aren't caves and chasms and such ... plus add in the hall of fame. Howe's could be a destination. |

Ha! ha!! The difference between Niagara Falls and Howe's though is one is a city, the other a single property. Casinos can't allow children under 18. I guess that's the reason for the watermark...dump the kids in the park and take off to gamble. I just think bad things will result because casinos and family friendly just don't mesh. And, I don't understand why members of any community would really want a casino. How often do you look at real gambling towns (not lite weight racino video slots) and think, wow what a lack of crime and poverty this place has. Why does anyone want to bring that to their home? |

The difference between Niagara Falls and Howe's Cavern is that one (Niagara Falls) is a real natural treasure and has a lot of other things to see and do in the area. Howe's Cavern, while the original cave itself was formed by nature, has been "enhanced" by human hands and is still something that you would only go ONCE to see.

"Enhanced" to make it viewable to the public! It would have been just a cave if it had not been "enhanced". What will we see different when we go to Niagara Falls more than once? More hotels, renovated hotels and maybe another casino???? |

Is it like that basement cave you shack up in in your two mommies' house? And WHY would anyone want to see Niagara Falls more than once? How many times do you have to see water fall? Out by Howe Caverns you can go to Dodge City |

I am speaking about the Falls themselves -- I never tire of seeing them. You can see it from different vantage points like taking the walk down to the viewing point behind the falls or riding one of the boats that come up close underneath. You can visit the falls during different seasons. For some reason, I particularly like Niagara Falls in the winter with some snow on the ground or in late spring with the flowers in bloom on the Canadian side. I have been to Niagara Falls a number of times and have never bothered with the casinos or tourist trap venues. I prefer to tie in a visit Fort Niagara State Park on Lake Ontario and to Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Lewiston, NY when I travel to Niagara Falls. |

Niagara Falls NEW YORK is horrible.
I don't think the vast majority in Schenectady really want a casino. These developers pay people to attend meetings and hold signs...
I'm not saying Howe's Caverns in the only other thing to do ... But people could make a day of it there with all the natural beauty, museums, hall of fames and such within a reasonable drive ...
If the casino is in an urban area it will just end up getting the people who can't afford to gamble going while the people in the suburbs will avoid it for that reason ..... |
