Yeah.

By the way, the "SHIP" program was federal money, wait, that's still taxpayers' money.

If I remember, it's that Jeffery Civitello that is redoing (or maybe it's completed) some building right next to the RR tracks downtown or maybe one door away from it.   His father or uncle did construction work too, Carmen, and there was Carmen Sr (who sexually molested a child, or at least accused of it), and they all seemed a different company every month.

That would be Focus Construction. I think they did the new Mexican place among others.

If "they" won't spend anytime here because of the "nastiness"...How do they know there is nastiness?  If you know there is nastiness, they you are following threads pretty closely to pick it up.

The debates may get heated and ugly, but you'd be surprised how many are compelled to follow because of it.  Look at pop culture and reality TV.  Big Brother, Jersey Shore, Survivor, and all the rest of reality tv.  People like the drama.  It's like rubbernecking to see a case crash.

This is politics, it's a dirty dirty business.  THE DIRTIEST.

Hey believe what you want to, I just know what I read and here. Remember this site has been around for 7 years I think. Plenty of people have come and gone for different reasons. The "nastiness and name-calling" are just one of the reasons. This place has a bad rep as far as civility goes.

It does however rate high on the sleaze factors you mentioned. I guess it depends on what you want.

why not vamp Hamilton Hill.....Eastern Ave has the same behavior in the neighborhood..  it's not reported......out of sight out of mind...

REVAMP THE HILL.....MCCLELLAN ST......BRANDYWINE AVE.....

WHY NOT??????????....TOO FAR FROM DOWTOWN STATE ST.......what a joke this government is.....

oops forgot......Union College is in the neighborhood of Eastern Ave.....

Eastern ave is more doable than those streets. There are some bad properties on Eastern, particularly the lower portion of it, but there are many that just need some TLC. A lot of that street is in good shape (relatively speaking of course). More bang for your buck. The Hill needs more money, and higher level of personal investment.  There is no point fixing something up if the current residents/owners don't have the commitment to maintain it. I'm not sure there is enough of that kind of commitment on any of the other streets you mentioned to make that kind of investment...at least yet. Many of the properties on Eastern look like their is an attempt to take care of them (the exception being that immediate area around St. John's).

I'm not sure what business they are talking about though other than the very small area near Price Chopper. Maybe they have ideas for that area. It would be nice to something happen to the Fireside building.

We've wanted investments in the neighborhood, and here we have one. Is it the neighborhood I wanted (mine of course- ha)? No, but it is a start. I'd rather have my taxes lowered so that residents could afford to do this themselves but we know with the current power structure that will not happen, so it's nice that at least a small sliver of the pie will benefit someone other than the downtown.

First, remember that hundreds of homes on Hamilton hill are city owned properties.(SURA, IDA,etc.)

Second, Metroplex spending adds 20% to your county taxes.

Don't get into the weeds.  People are unaware that they spent thousands extra in sales tax over the past 17 years.  They could have fixed their own property with their own money if it hadn't been confiscated through sales tax.

I stated that I'd rather have taxes lower than these programs but we all know that is t going to happen. Metroplex is t going away no matter how much you and I and other stomp our feet over it. My only choices then are have spend the money on downtown or so d the money in neighborhoods. With those choices, well I'm picking the neighborhoods for a change.

Who has the money to invest in homes plummeting in value, better yet why would they when there is no return on that investment. Lets not forget the tax money spent downtown did nothing for the tax payers but cost us more, so what good would tax payer money in Hamilton Hill do except continue the wasteful spending of our hard earned money. I'm basically saying shifting the money won't fix the problem.

The problem is, taking the money perpetuates the problem.  If you give money to homeowners, that means metroplex has to take the money from the bond, which gets paid back to the investors with interest, using the money collected through sales tax.  So taking the money just prolongs the problem.  It's death by a thousand cuts.

But...It will be the next generation that has to pay it back.

I agree, but Metroplex is not going to stop taking the money regardless. That is currently not an option. I'm not arguing ideology, just pointing out the current reality.  If every homeowner refused the grant money Metroplex would not suddenly say hey let's stop spending money, they would just spend it on something else. So, since the disolution of Metroplex is not a current reality Id rather see my fellow homeowners benefit. Even if the only benefit is having a clean paint job that is nice to come home from and does nothing to increase their investment.

My ideological preference would be for Metroplex to disband, but the reality does not reflect that occurring.

And you know what would happen right, while their investment doesn't increase they would see a jump in assessments.

I understand it's tough to turn down what appears to be free money.  But what you just described is turning Metroplex from corporate welfare into social welfare.  It's not easy to see the long game in a society that wants instant gratification.  But taking the money just perpetuates the system.  It keeps those controlling the money in power, the same people that have been screwing the residents.  They are doing it by offering them a fresh coat of paint.

Metroplex was created for commercial development and "investment".  The fact they are raining money into neighborhoods tells me that the residents are getting angry, and the city Democrats are using the Metroplex to pump money into neighborhoods to buy good will. To me...This is a sign that 17 years of Metroplex is failed, and the residents are becoming aware of it.  Don't let them buy good will by taking their filthy money.

So the property owner puts up $5k and the Metroplex puts up $5K?  With a $10k investment in those properties, the property owner wouldn't even get their $5K if they sold the property.  The property values in the city aren't going down because of the structure of the buildings on the property.  They are going down because of the structure of the city surrounding the property.(i.e. schools, local government, taxes roads, crime, etc...)

Congratulations, you understand the reality of the situation. Refreshing to say the least.
