Not innocent at all.

I am all in favor of civilian individuals banding together for protection if they desire to do so.

Actually it was. Just as I post old newspaper articles as sort of a public service, I posted a FB link just in case anyone here wasn't aware of it and might have some interest. You read WAY too much into the post or it's intent. I had no idea it would end up turning into a discussion on personal freedoms. I apologize for my ignorance. Next time I post something similar I'll make sure I either preface or annotate it with a disclaimer.

No matter what you think of it in the end they would need to rely on the police. Now the real issue is if the police will work with them and how or if they would even respond. In the city it wouldn't work, many concerned citizens actually stopped calling in incidents because frankly the police don't respond or put in any effort in stopping crimes.

police are there to arrest after a crime....then it's off to the 'guilty until proven innocent' media or word of mouth.....

police stop crime?
like priests stop guilt?

the police are just pawns for politicians and those in the $$$$

they are used as revenue makers like the tax man is

that's not what I said.....

I said WHY gated communities?

Actually, you said that gated communities make people FEEL unsafe.  I disagree with that.  I think it makes them feel safer.
Gated communities can be a very good thing.  For example, you can keep pesky politicians out during election season.

We are One Nation under God. Yet say neighborhood watches traded with neighboring areas now and then. Like Rotterdam and Schenectady. Would Rotterdam people feel as safe or more fear? Would Rotterdam watch people be in more or same danger as Schenectady watch people would be in their own area?  And/or would any watch group be say dead meat in certain areas?  Yet with say the National Guard with people from all over serving all over are welcome all over. So the difference is?

We are 50 individual States in a republic, with a constitution meant to greatly limit the powers of the federal government over the states.  God has nothing to do with it.  We are now one nation under Washington DC.

The National Guard are considered "Troops" and is under the command of the President.  That's the difference.

The God part was the phrase part.  Troops more trusted then the police? And the Rotterdam /Schenectady people trust factors with difference with other watch groups in thier  areas? Like how Rotterdam family or friends might be ok with a member being in a watch group in their own areas. BUT not neighboring Sĉhenectady now and then. Ya it would be the troops. Bigger weapons.

Most neighborhoods are well protected by people walking dogs every evening until after dark.

Remember, Trayvon Martin was annoyed that he was being followed(observed) by an allegedly well intentioned neighborhood watch member. Things quickly got out of hand resulting in tragic actions, whereas without the presence of the armed neighborhood "observer," it would have just been a quiet night where a kid walks to the store for skittles, talking with his girlfriend on the phone.

Sure, Zimmerman probably had good intentions, but when he was confronted, the situation went sideways and he killed the kid.

It could easily had gone the other way with Trayvon feeling he was being targeted by the suspicious person following him.

Either way, the presence of the watchers directly caused the consequences.

PRE-CRIME by government aka: police is wrong.......

A neighborhood watch with very very open inviting venues are good.....but walking for the sake of guarding is bad.

BBQS, fundraisers, potlucks, family fun days etc etc.....unfortunately we have allowed the government to usurp this role...why?
I don't know,,,,no time for anything but work? kids in way too many organized things? family demographics changed?

it's insidious the encroachment allowed by the government to be allowed to sew together the fabric of a community. Churches
used to have this role. gardening clubs, bridge clubs etc etc.....

it seems to have gotten very narcissistic and serve me oriented.....will it reverse with access to 24/7 social media? maybe

First, I trust in God.  It is still the motto of our country.  If more people put their trust in God instead of in materialism and other "earthly" distractions than we'd have a lot better situation.

The National Guard are actually under the command of the Governor of their specific state.  There have been occasions when presidents have signed executive orders "federalizing" the National Guard of a particular state or state(s).
