Man stabs girlfriend's ex-lover Published 11:00 am, Friday, August 22, 2014 Thomas Newell, 29, of 1353 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam (Rotterdam Police Department) ROTTERDAM - A man stabbed his girlfriend's ex-lover and then chased him to his car after a confrontation Thursday in front of the new boyfriend's Helderberg Avenue home, police said.
Thomas Newell, 29, of 1353 Helderberg Ave., was charged with felony assault and criminal mischief after his victim drove off and called police to report the 12:20 a.m. attack, police said.
The alleged victim, whose identity was not released, told police that Newell threatened to stab him and then pulled the knife and jabbed it in his chest, police said.
The victim, 20, received medical treatment in Rotterdam and was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital. He was later released from the hospital.
Police said the victim claimed Newell chased him to the victim's car after the stabbing and smashed a rear driver's side window as the victim drove off.
Newell was arraigned in town court and sent to the Schenectady County jail without bail.
