Perreca's marks 100th year on Saturday

SCHENECTADY — Perreca's Bakery, 31 North Jay St., is celebrating its 100th birthday with a Block Party from 5-9 p.m. Saturday.

Food, music and dancing will celebrate the anniversary in the streets of Schenectady's Little Italy.

The free entertainment is by The Refrigerators.

Food for purchase on the street includes eggplant parmesan, ziti and meatball, rice balls (arancini), sausage and peppers, tomato pie, Italian pastries, homemade gelato, and Italian lemon ice. Beer and wine will be available.

Both Perreca's Bakery and More Perreca's Italian Kitchen will be open until 10 p.m. Reservations are accepted at More Perreca's, 377-9800. Further information is on Facebook and http://www.perrecas.com

The Dan DiNicola Memorial Little Italy Film Festival continues outdoors in the parking lot at dusk Friday with "Roman Holiday" this week and "My Cousin Vinny" on Friday, Aug. 22.

Nothing beats a slice of Perreca's bread ... toasted ... then apply a thin layer of home-made Toum (Lebanese garlic sauce) .. place a few slices of a fresh heirloom tomato ... a sprinkling of dill.   You have a great lunch.
