Carl Erickson.

And of course, it's probably too late for anyone of an opposing party to choose to run, right?

So that means the corrupt DEM party council chooses who represents the people instead of the people choosing who represents them!

Democrats might leave Schenectady councilman in the cold

Erikson at the Fireball Run
We have a story Tuesday about how the Schenectady city Democrats are giving indications that they’ll abandon City Councilman Carl Erikson in his bid for re-election in November – we assume because he’s been critical about fiscal plans presented by Democratic Mayor Gary McCarthy. Endorsement discussions start in a couple of weeks.

It seems odd for a party who’s motto is “working together works” to blatantly show that there’s internal strife. But, there also appears to be little tolerance for those that stray from the public persona Democrats promote. After all, the party controls  all government in Schenectady County – save for the Town of Glenville.

Erikson, as chairman of the Council’s finance committee, led the charge to reduce McCarthy’s proposed tax increase for the 2013 budget. Four other Council people voted for the new budget and overrode McCarthy’s veto as well. But perhaps what stung most was when Erikson was the only Democrat to not vote for McCarthy’s sales tax deal with Schenectady County, calling its passage a “sad day.”

Erikson, a contract manager at General Electric, said he doesn’t know what he’ll do if he’s not endorsed. He is a committed Democrat, so switching parties or, let’s say,  jumping on the Roger Hull Alliance Party bandwagon, doesn’t appear to be an option – at least not right now.

Now that he's not a councilman, he won't feel guilty about going to the board of assessment to grieve the assessment on his house that has been for sale for years and no buyers because NO ONE wants to buy a house IN the city.

Hey DV, now's your chance.

Hurry down to DSS and SCAP for an apartment and benefits.  You can move into the city that you claim is improving.  Print out all the comments you've made praising the mayor and council, praising the theft from homeowners to give to the downtown rich.  You'll be appointed in 5 second flat.   (maybe?  Do they like you?)

His silence is deafening

Erikson at least at times went "against the grain" Have No use the the useless rest of the council except of course V. Riggi.

I still have two of Pat Z's signs.

Calling it a difficult decision, City Councilman Carl Erikson announced he is quitting his post effective immediately.

"I've got a growing family, which needs to come first, and with some many irons in the fire I need to refocus on family and career," Erikson said, making the surprise announcement near the end of Monday night's City Council meeting.

The Democrat, who hasn't been shy about breaking with his colleagues on key issues, mentioned the demands of his job, and that being an effective elected official has taken a lot of time that he doesn't have.

"It's time-consuming if you want to do it right," he added. "My time on the council has been very educational."

Erikson also urged people to get involved in the political process and to make their community a better place.

"The more people get involved, the better it works," he added.

City Council President Peggy King said Erikson called her late Monday afternoon to inform her of his plans to step down while noting that he had missed the last regular City Council and agenda meetings because of work commitments.

Erikson is director of supply chain for Plug Power, a Latham-based fuel cell manufacturer.

Asked about possible successors, King said the council most likely would appoint someone temporarily. If that person wants to finish Erikson's unexpired term, he or she will have to run for the seat in November.

Erikson earned a reputation as something of a maverick Democrat.

Despite being endorsed by his party and later winning re-election in November, there was speculation he might not get the party's support. He fell out of favor for, among other things, going against the majority Democrats on issues like the city's sales tax deal with Schenectady County.

Erikson, who previously worked for General Electric, was appointed to the City Council in 2010 to fill a vacancy created when then-Councilman Mark Blanchfield was appointed to the Schenectady City Court bench. King said Monday it was too early come up with front-runners for succeeding Erikson. Mayor Gary McCarthy was among those who wished Erikson well. "We thank you for your service and wish you the best. You will be missed," he said.

Some of these people may have resigned because they realized their voices were not being heard and they finally realized their was a bigger force controling things.

Hopefully the vote will get out next time and take down more of the status quo.
