2 guys were talking in line at Gabriel's this afternoon.

The one guy told the other they were going ahead with the public safety building plan for Grand union.

The 2nd guy said "the town court and police station?"

He said yes, the work has already begun.

I have no idea who they were.

Spoke with someone from plank construction (owner of the property) over the weekend, was told it was a warehouse and office space coming in. They are doing the fit out ans leasing the space. The town did not want to lease so...

That really doesn't say much, other than seem to reference a "study" that say what "could be," but not that anything "is."

But what is a "neighborhood center."   Is that a "socialist"  center?  Tax people so much they can't enjoy their own homes and thus would have to go to this "neighborhood" center for activities?

Anyone know if this purported "study" was ever adopted and incorporated into the Comprehensive Plan as an amendment??

It's interesting, the town had it on their "not quite assessment roll" listed as "community service" property (as oppose to commercial, residential, etc)

But the town also has not posted, as required by law, the final assessment roll

according to the TU, Superior Business Products is moving there...from their old location on...Carmen Road! stupid TU doesn't realize it's one in the same.

UNLESS NEW business moves in also, it's just another "moving the deck chairs on the Titanic" game.. just like Pioneer Savings Bank.

http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Former-Grand-Union-getting-2M-rehab-in-Rotterdam-5625236.php

ROTTERDAM - A former Grand Union store that has long been an eyesore on Hamburg Street will undergo $2 million in renovations and become the new home to a local office supply firm, Schenectady County officials announced Wednesday.

Highbridge Development bought the building and will make the renovations for Superior Business Products, which is expected to occupy 25,000 square feet of space in the building. Superior Business Products is currently located on nearby Carman Road.

Highbridge is funding most of the renovations but the Metroplex Development Authority, a taxpayer-funded agency, is contributing a $95,000 grant.

The building has been vacant for more than a decade. Schenectady County recently built a centralized police and fire dispatch center on nearby land.
