Most of the downtown properties renovated receive money (grants and/or loans) from the taxpayers. Some money comes from the state and It is a well known undisputable fact that taxes in this state are way to high and people are leaving this state in droves.
On top of that, the owners of these properties are multimillionaires.
The PILOT amounts don’t come anywhere near the amount they would pay in taxes if they paid their full taxes based on the assessed value.
Is it proper for families with mostly incomes of $40,000 to be paying the majority of the downtown tax bills owned by the super rich? Why or why not?
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
