hows about fixing a few roads that are in dire need after this winter?..its only july  ..and maybe a few outside of the ge plot and downtown?

The city is fixing roads AND fixing parks.  The two are not mutually exclusive.

Again -- your comments are SOS -- same old sh*t

Fixing one park and a couple hundred feet of roads.   And the rest of the money is spent on their millionaire cronies downtown.   And you think that's fair?

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Millard St has been tore up for over a month and there is no sign of progress being made on it, in fact larger areas of the original brick road are being revealed and I'm amazed on how nice the condition of the original road is

Be careful what you wish for when you wish to the government.  When you ask the government for a maintained park, you get a $90k per year parks director, a $60k per year supervisor, and 10 lazy city workers related to some scumbag politician at $45k per year to mow the grass and empty garbage.  There goes that $500k and more.

If I'm gonna pay taxes--and let's face it, there is no way I'm going to get out of that--I'd rather spend it on the parks then on downtown. I'd even be willing to spend that in addition to all the crap I don't want them to spend my money on. It would be nice to have something available of use in this city, and right now the parks are not safe. If it means paying for the labor, materials and oversight, then I am actually ok with that.

I don't mind paying taxes when the community actually gets something in return.

That's the problem with community through government thinking.  You don't know, or can't know, what everybody in the "community" wants.  You just know what you want, and assume everybody in the community wants to pay the same thing.  That's why a private park would be much better.  Just like little league, get some local business sponsors, buy the land, and those that want to use the park can pay for the use of it.

Yes, because children walk around with wads of cash in their pockets so they can play. Maybe we should privatize roads and charge them a toll to ride their bikes in the street too.

Silly...The parents pay...Just like little league and pop warner.  Have you been to Great Escape?  There is this crazy thing called a "season pass", and you pay for a pass to go to the park all year.  You show your pass, and you get in to ride on all the rides.  It's a wild concept.  Maybe Great Escape should be funded through the government too?  You know, for the kids of course.

Haven't been to Great Escape since it was storytown. Lol!! Can't afford it. Children's ticket price is like $45!! And then there is parking and food and gas to drive up there. My family is not wealthy enough for that kind of lavish spending on one day. Saw an employee post once that the average family spends about $300 or more per visit. Don't know if that's true since I haven't been, but that's my grocery budget for a month. I can't spend that on rides.

And to compare an amusement park to a city park is just ridiculous. Cicero, you are an intelligent enough person to know that too!

Season pass at Great Escape is $5.35 a month.  That's 18 cents per day.  Parents can't come up with 18 cents per day to send their kids to a park?  Yeah...Wad of cash.

Yes, and amusement park is much more costly to run that a city park.  I would imagine the overhead like liability, electricity, and labor is much more expense than swing sets, jungle gyms, a baseball field and basketball court.

If you lived in Lake George, you wouldn't pay $5.35 a month for your child to go to Great Escape?  You wouldn't have to pay for parking, food, or gas.  Remember, we are talking about a private park like great escape in Schenectady, just at a much-much smaller scale.

Yes, if you put money down first. For a family of four the costs are still over $500, there is a 12 month minimum, and you can only use it a few months a year. And you still have to pay for food because you're not allowed to bring your own in.

Again, my family is not wealthy enough to spend $500.

A family of 4 is $6.17 per month.  That's $75 per year.  Remember, we are talking about a private park in Schenectady for those that want to use it.  And we are not talking about an amusement park, but an open air park with swing sets and ball parks, maybe a swimming pool. Much cheaper to operate than a amusement park.
