Perhaps this is a stupid question but, how is it that 4 water mains break at once?
As each break occurs the water pressure should be dropping.
Did they overfill the water towers?
Did they over ration our usage?
Imagine 4 pipes breaking in your home at once.
Something is not right here.
There is more to the story.
But by all means just keep hooking up more developments to the water supply.
Pipes don't break when water is freely flowing through them.
They break from pressure.
My understanding is...When the first main broke on princetown rd, they fixed it, then repressurized the lines too quickly, creating too much pressure in three other line, causing them to burst.

So the first one was a break and the other 3 were human error?

That's what I've heard. If you live in the Wescott Rd area, you would have realized that when your water was back on, the pressure was very low. And still is.
Updated: Wednesday, July 2 2014, 03:50 PM EDT ROTTERDAM -- Officials say three people were stuck by lightning on Wednesday in Rotterdam. Town Supervisor Harry Buffardi says three people were hit at the Curry Road water filling station. Officials say that shortly after 2 p.m., Rotterdam Highway Department workers were loading a packer truck with empty boxes at the filling station when the lightning struck the area and knocked them off their feet. Officers on the scene requested medical help. Authorities say all three employees sustained minor injuries and were taken to Ellis Hospital for evaluation. Water distribution has been suspended at the site until 9 a.m. on Thursday.
Based on the most recent post on the town Website, the boil water notice will be in effect until AT LEAST Friday... Also, they are reporting SIX SEPARATE breaks in the system. Either the guy who turned on the water after the first break should be fired, or this towns water system is ready to collapse.

A handful of houses in the Bernard and Wallace Street area of Rotterdam will be without water while this new repair is made. The Town's water department has begun taking samples of the Town's water, which were delivered to a New York State certified water testing facility this afternoon. The facility will test the water to be sure it is safe for drinking. The Town will share these results with the Schenectady County Department of Health. After twelve (12) hours has passed from the time the first sample is tested, the Town will again send water again to the New York State certified water testing facility and share these results with Schenectady County. After two clean test results, eighteen (1 hours after the second result, Schenectady County Department of Health will evaluate the results and will make the decision to rescind the boil water advisory.
