A nice tribute RP... But I'm afraid there are some on this board who feel just the opposite! Screw em!

Thank you for marking the target so the air strike that made sure the agent orange and napalm was dropped on villagers in a third world country was most effective.
Thank you for serving in undeclared wars waged by presidents. Your congressman never voted to authorize the death and destruction your service produced.

See RP? Some on this board look at military service as an evil, not something to be proud of.

Yes, joining any organization(govt or street gang) that requires a person to kill people that have done no harm to them is no reason to trip all over myself thanking them. Sorry I don't get all sentimental watching a 2 minute PR video.
If they expanded the video to include the vets specific actions while "serving", then it may have been a little more realistic. The Vietnam Vet should have shared his personal stories with every graphic detail with that little boy calling him a hero. Let the little boy understand what he must do to "serve".

Do you understand now RP? People like Cicero live their entire life inside 'themselves'... inside their needs and wants. Nothing outside of themselves is worthy of their effort or sacrifice.
Don't let people like Cicero jade your patriotism RP. America agrees with you... I can't think of any one who agrees with Cicero... well maybe Al Qaeda or N. Korea, but that's about it.

Depending on the time period people have served our country for different reasons. Some are expected to as it "runs in the family". Many were drafted. Many because there is no gainful employment and the armed forces is a guaranteed job after high school with a promise of aide for college. Whatever the reason MOST are/were in the armed forces because they love our country and would defend it to their death.
Of course over the years we have heard horror stories of some who have committed awful crimes while serving, but that is a very small percentage.
As in any "profession" there will always be some "bad" apples.
After 9/11 when we bombed Iraq so many had their flags flying. We were led to believe Iraq was the culprit.
Then we find out there were no weapons of mass destruction and that Bin Laden was to blame for that awful day.
It was a slap in the face to Americans who watched the bombings thinking we were seeing justice served.
But NEVER in all the conflicts over the years can our veterans be blamed. 99 percent of them served proudly, many came back with lifelong physical/ emotional damage. They have seen things what we can only imagine in our worst nightmares.
My issue is with the higher ups in government who have made some terrible decisions that led to the deaths of so many brave Americans and innocent lifes overseas.
God Bless our Veterans who joined to protect our country.

Hmmmm...After knowing the recent history of modern America committing the military to unnecessary war, and the wake of destruction left behind....Why would you join an organization that makes it illegal for an enlistee to refuse to participate in unnecessary wars?
From Vietnam to present, how can anybody look at that history and still blame the "higher ups in government" when historical evidence shows you will most likely be deployed in a senseless war with no clear objective? The higher ups are power mad warmongers, it hasn't changed in 60 years.

I understand if Cicero blamed the President and the Congress for the war... Cissy puts the blame on the 'warriors' for the war.

Yes, dying in the desert or jungle 10,000 miles away from home, serving the government in power, and widowing your wife and leaving your children fatherless is quite the noble sacrifice. Sometimes I wonder what the "warrior" is thinking when prioritizing their life. I guess for some, family comes second to serving a president.
