Rent for a while.  Watch when he goes to buy a house.  "oh wow, only $400 a month"   And then he is told $700 for taxes.   If he has any intelligence in finances, household budgets, home value, appreciation, investing in one's future, he'll go as far away from the city as he can--to own a house.

If people want to throw money away giving there money to a landlord for 60 or so years of their adult life, that's their prerogative, but I can think of better things to do with a million dollars.  Just because there are some, no, one person on these boards who wouldn't comprehend a million dollars for paying rent, if you begin renting at $700 a year today at age 22 and rent increased by $10 each year, then at age 67, the monthly rent would be $1,150 at that time.  If the renter experienced an annual $25 increase, then the rent at age 67 would be $1,825 per month.  With an annual $25 increase in rent it does not quite double.  We rented in a local apartment complex when we got married and in the roughly 30 years, the rent has went up almost 5 times, i.e., the place still exists today but the rent per their website shows a monthly rental cost four times as much as what we paid then.  I have an aunt who rented out a flat in Schenectady in the 1970's for about $175 a month.  She no longer owns it, there is an owner occupant today and the rent is about $900 a month.

So one only need some simple grade school math ability to calculate how much one would pay in rent from graduation til retirement.  And the amounts I showed at age 67 are really low, it probably would be more like $2,500 to $3,000 a month 45 years from now (from graduation at 22 til retirement at 67

Purchasing  house in Schenectady, as long as the dems are running the city, will mean  paying a mortgage but quickly becoming underwater on the mortgage meaning when you sell (job transfer, needing a bigger house for having kids, etc), the owner WILL LOSE money because they will not be able to sell for what they purchased the house for.  But the tax portion being twice the principal and interest for the house will again mean essentially throwing money away.  Taxes increased annually combined with an annual reduction in services for those taxes.  Home value falls.

CLEARLY Schenectady is NOT a wise investment in which to live.  It is nothing but a money LOSING occurrence.

Purchasing a home should mean that home values increase as amount of your principal decreases.  This does NOT happen in the city of Schenectady under the dem leadership.

There is talk of a parade which is a wonderful idea.

But what is with the mayor trying to rush and have it this week?  With Holy Week and Passover, where does this mayor think it's week to be celebratory?

A friend of mine just called be to ask what time Mass will be at our parish on Thursday because she heard the may have problems going to church Thursday night at St John's because he mayor is trying to have the parade on Thursday or Saturday, and the players will have gone home for Easter so Saturday is a no go.  So she figures they would have it at night so people can attend, but that will prevent people from going to church at St John's because of road closures.  And St John's is having two Masses.

Mayor obviously wants this photo op and that's all he cares about rushing the parade if it is this week.  Hate to politicize it, but rushing a parade to hold it when the people can't attends show the mayor doesn't care about the people.  He'll have his rich political cronies with him for sure.

Congrats to Union! Sad to see McThug is using Union College as a political puck. McThug always criticizes Union College and Roger Hull for the Steward Street development. Now McThug is doing a 360 on his views on Union?? This McThug is a FAILURE. Roger Hull would of done a much better job than McThug as Mayor! Hull could of had gotten UNION to contribute to the tax base. UNION College doesn't support McThug and his policies. Stop trying McThug Union College is smater than you!

Yep, just heard the mayor on the council meeting saying from 4 to 6 pm on Thursday.   Make sure to have it when Schenectady and area people cannot attend because of Holy Week.

SCHENECTADY — Schenectady police arrested five Union College students when a celebratory gathering in the street turned rowdy following the Union ice hockey team’s NCAA championship late Saturday evening.

Department spokesman Lt. Mark McCracken said police were dispatched to block off a section of Union Avenue, where between 400 and 500 students were spilling into the roadway from a private residence on the edge of campus. At one point after police arrived at 20 Union Ave., some in the crowd began hurling unopened beer cans and glass bottles, striking one officer and damaging a cruiser.

“He was picking glass out of uniform for a little while,” McCracken said the officer, who wasn’t badly hurt.

Still, McCracken said the spectacle was unfortunate after such a momentous event. He said someone in the crowd even shot pepper spray during celebration, which went on until 1 a.m. Sunday....

so between this and the rpi-union mayors game nastiness in january do you still think a parades in order? better call in the state boys for crowd control

Folks are agreeing with the idea of a parade...........they just don't like the day they picked!

I think it's an awful time too and Passover this week too.  But you have to remember, this is NOT a parade for the people of the city.  Just call the chamber of commerce, they were contacted by people we know and some guy stated that this time day was picked for the businesses downtown.  See, NOT for the people of the city to cheer them on.  Of course, many people will be at work outside of the city during the parade.  And some will be tending to their church dinners and church.

Come to think of it, there is a Greek Orthodox church across the street from the back of city hall.  Is Orthodox Easter the same Sunday this year?  I thought I heard that but I may be wrong.  But if it is, then how will people get to church there?  Where will they park, access their church.

This mayor is all about his cro9nies, his party, and himself and totally anti people of the city and obviously now we can add anti-religion to the mix.  Apparently the word on facebook is that this Tbhursday is the ONLY day players will be available?  I guess they have already taken exams, graduation is today (Wednesday) and they will be gone after tomorrow.

Gee if they will not be available after Thursday, obviously that means the students do NOT stay in the city, they flee this city, they get the hell out of the city.  There is the EVIDENCE, huh?
