It's not every day the mayors of five upstate New York cities get together to talk about real estate.

But that's on the agenda Thursday, April 10, as the mayors of Schenectady, Albany, Troy, Saratoga Springs, Amsterdam participate in a roundtable discussion at Proctors Theatre in downtown Schenectady.

The discussion, scheduled for 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., is one of several being held as part of a daylong summit called "Strengthening Cities, Communities & Homes."

The summit, sponsored by the city of Schenectady and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, will bring together federal, state and local government officials, real estate agents, financial institutions, nonprofits, advocates, educators and others.

More than 400 people are expected to attend.

The goal: figuring out how to "optimize housing options" for Capital Region residents, according to event organizers.

The daylong program will run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m, and include speeches from federal and state government housing officials. There also will be educational seminars and breakout sessions. For a complete schedule, along with registration and payment details, go here.

A cocktail party to kick off the event will be held April 9 at Transfinder, a software development company located at 440 State St. in Schenectady. The hosts include Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy, Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, Amsterdam Mayor Ann Thane, Saratoga Springs Mayor Joanne Yepsen, and Troy Mayor Lou Rosamilia.

McC obviously dreamed this up with his gal Mary Mary (who STILL cannot sell that feature house on Glenwood) as another desperate attempt to get people to buy homes in the city of Schenectady.

Some people prefer a city, some prefer suburban, some prefer to be way out in the country, others like to live by the seashore, others prefer to be in a building where there is nothing but buildings and concrete as far as the eye can see.  To each is own.

The mayors of the other cities are NOT having a problem with people buying houses in their respective cities; additionally the values of the houses in those cities is substantially higher than the houses in Schenectady and the values in those other cities are going up.  Taxes may be high in other cities, but no where near as high as Schenectady.  And that is the ACTUAL, UNAVOIDABLE, INCONTROVERTIBLE TRUTH!

Well if for no other reason, this grouping of 400 or so will constitute a $$$ influx to the downtown restaurants bottom line.   They have to eat somewhere.   So even if nothing is accomplished, the event puts $$$ into the PLEX supported business.

they are clearly ALL spinning their wheels. There is no easy/quick solution to the mess Schenectady is in!! I don't even know if the last 8 years without these dimwits would have made any difference.....REALLY!!!

Until they change/raise the eligibility for welfare, unload the nursing home and the trash p/u and start taxing (full taxation) for the 'friends and family' club...........(and that's just for starters).............NOTHING WILL CHANGE!!

And remember........even if 'the other political party' gets in....they will just play with their own 'friends and family' club. And unloading the nursing home and the trash service will cause them defeat. GOD....look at all the hub-bub over privatizing REMS in ROTTENdam!!!

Like the song says.............'GOD is great....beer is good....and people are crazy!!!'

ROFL.  The dem mayor of Albany is NOT at this event in Schenectady.  Hey Albany does NOT have problems selling houses.   Taxes are high but not as high as Schenectady.  Houses in Albany are increasing in value, unlike Schenectady where home values are MASSIVELY FALLING.

The mayor of Albany is attending the Bishop's installation and thumbing her nose at the McC jerk who has to find all kind of desperate measures to even remotely try to sell a house in his city.

I believed that this is to encourage people from other cities to move to Schenectady. Or does it have a different focus.

Don't get why the Mayor of Saratoga Springs would have anything to do with the other four rustbelt dumping grounds.

but why are there so many people needing section 8? even when they have those 'great service jobs' that the leaders
keep touting?

in order to earn enough $$ to afford rent one making $10/hour must work 60-80hours/week.....and that leaves time for what?

the leaders enjoy cheap labor to serve them and then uses them to talk about their plight then uses them again to get votes
then continues on with the redlining status quo....

prosperity DOES NOT LIE IN POLITICIANS HANDS....why? because virtual value and their cog making machine always takes
precedence over the humans.
