Former MVP building to become apartments
Times Union
Staff report
Published 8:49 pm, Wednesday, March 12, 2014

SCHENECTADY — The former MVP building at 111 Liberty St. will be developed into 30 upscale apartments with a $3.6 million private investment, Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority officials said.

The Metroplex board approved the project Wednesday night.

The building has been vacant since MVP Health Care moved to a larger downtown building in 2002. New owners will convert the 31,000-square foot office building into apartments and a ground floor fitness center.

Parking for the building is nearby on lower State Street, and that area will be renovated as well.

The development team working on the conversion includes Peter Luizzi and Saverio Minucci. Luizzi owns Luizzi Brothers Contracting, a paving and site work contractor in Albany. Luizzi is building a Troy project that includes 156 apartments and 60 condominiums.

Minucci owns a number of apartments for investment purposes.

The Metroplex board also approved a $75,000 facade grant as part of an upgrade to 1611-1613 Union Street and a $384,900 contract with Callanan Industries of Schenectady to repair vaults and other underground infrastructure in the lower State Street area this spring.

We have a surplus of housing stock in the City of Schenectady to be exact 1,200 forecloed properties but Metroplex is giving away $250,000 grant money to these rich builders to add more apartments to the market? Does this make any sense? I tell you what though $250,000 can fix alot of these boarded up properties in Hamilton Hill, Mt. Pleasant and Vale. McCarthy and his Democratic Team continue to collect kickbacks from these rich developers in the form of campaign money. McCarthy turns a blind eye to the neighboorhoods in the City of Schenectady! He demonizes the absentee landlords many of them Guyanese but he makes a "quick buck" off the rich builders!

Schenectady needs good, quality NEW as well IMPROVED housing.  This project in the Stockade area is a great thing.  It - along with other projects to be announced in the next several months - will repopulate that area of the city with people who will need and desire other services (retail shops, restaurants, etc.).  This is another step along the City-County of Schenectady's Renaissance path.

Pretty sure that this building was used in a press release a number of years ago for the same thing.  I think the same owner owns the eye sore on the corner of Washington and State near SCCC.  He also owns the large white Court building on lower Union Street.

Weird thing is that this building is not listed on the County tax data website.  Nothing lower than 211.

Stop smoking the loco weed and come down to reality. Nobody wants to live in the city of Schenectady. Taxes along with the crime are too high, infrastructure is rotten and the area is starting to resemble a dump.

REALLY? repopulate exactly what part of the city? Downtown? What about the rest of the taxpayers in the rest of the 'over taxed' city? Or will that just fall into the welfare abyss? Is that the plan?

Yes - Really.  For your information, the Stockade is considered a neighborhood of the city and is in as much a need of improvement as any other neighborhood.
This one project will not solve all of the city's issues.  It will take many more private investor projects all around the city. And - eventually - those will come along.  The fact is that the local Republicans under the Farleys and Jurzynski pushed the city-county into the ground with the force of a super-sized pile driver.  Their greed and incompetence is what created the mess.  It has taken a decade to make the progress out from under that mess and will take considerable effort and investment in the years ahead. ---- But it is crystal clear that the City-County of Schenectady is NOW back on the right track and moving in a positive direction.

Oh don't blame Farley and Jurzynski for the 20 million dollar Taj Mahal on Foster Ave?  $500,000 to the Galesi group for Nott Street? Galesi tells the Dems to bend over and they do flips like the hookers on Albany Street.

r u kidding? Any dimit could have taken money from the taxpayers and gave it to the rich with tax exemptions!
'other people's money has just about run out'!!!

there ain't a business out there that wanted to come to Schenectady.........they were wooed by all the free money!! So the rich got richer and the poor got poorer.
GREAT JOB!! NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This project will be a great tie-in with the other projects which will soon be coming to the Lower State Street-Erie Boulevard area.  The Renaissance keeps moving right along ... and all the nayboobs can do is cry about it and try to defend the greed and incompetence of hacks like the Farleys and Jurzynski.

So you are defending the work of Stratton, Saveage, McC, Gillen and the rest of the desm?

SIs the MASSSVIE REDUCTION of the city's tax base under their leadership "moving in the right direction?????

Tell us DV, speak about the reduction to the tax base, speak about the EVIDENCE of MASSIVE reduction in the tax base per the official tax rolls.  Speak bout the EVIDENCE of the MASSIVE reductions in property value under the dems as shown in the equalization rate.  Speak about the EVIDENCE of FAILURE by the dems shown by the massive numbers of people putting their houses up for sale, and how about houses taking a year or more to sell and the sell for so lo.  Speak about how outside of the city and county homes are selling in good numbers AND home sale prices are increasing.

Of course, we ALL know that you will NOT EVER speak about things such as falling tax base, falling property values, et .

You have yet to cite ONE TEENY WEENY SHREXD OF EVIDENCE that shows what is better in the city in terms of what concerns people--tax base, tax bills, property values, essential services, etc.

Now make sure you do not respond, we all know you won't, just keep spewing your nonsense babble lies and fairy tales.

Tell us when you are going to buy a house IN Schenectady

Tell us why you REFUSE to even rent IN the city.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.

speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
