I agree with your quote from John Wayne -- Life is tougher when your stupid.  So for you, it must be incredibly tough.

Easy when you mooch off your relatives.  You think so Ronnie?

Once again, this conceptual proposal is interesting and worth taking a look at.  There are certainly a lot of questions that need to be answered and concerns to be addressed.  Ultimately, a casino will be built somewhere in the greater Capital District area.  That being said - I would prefer that it be located where it would have the biggest positive impact on the City-County of Schenectady.  We'll just have to have to wait and see what happens in the weeks and months ahead.

It is an interesting conceptual proposal and certainly deserves to be looked at.

Quoted from bumblethru

it's not being 'looked at'...........it's being manipulated to benefit the rich!

Just for any newcomers this is a voice of reason that says this.  When a voice is not and never has been a taxpayer, they do not comprehend the heavy financial burden imposed on the homeowners who must pay the property taxes and can lose their house if they don't contribute to the taxes of a multibillionaire.  This project is all taxpayer money.

Jst think about this, since most of us have intelligence, and we have the evidence, we could easily calculate how much of our taxes go to pay the taxes of downtown and GE.  Granted many of us are in Rotterdam so for downtown it's only county taxes, but for GE it's all county, town, and school taxes.  Those who live in the city could calculate how much of their tax BILL goes toward the taxes of the millionaires and billionaire political cronies of the city/co/plex dems.

if the intelligent people paid all but that portion of their tax bill, the city and town would foreclose on them, tax foreclosure.  So, the FACT is that this "voice of reason" does not speak with any reason nor intelligence.

Are you willing to state that locating it in Schenectady would have absolutely the worst impact on the city and county?

You know that I am far more intelligent than you.  You know that I have evidence, and have repeatedly provided the evidence, that these taxpayer funded projects downtown have had no good impact at all on the city and county, that these taxpayer funded/subsidized projects have caused MASSIVE REDUCTION in the city's tax base, cause property values to plummet in record amounts, cause people to flee the city, abandon their homes, cause record high numbers of vacant properties, increased tax bills, caused good people to lose their homes, etc.  Can you provide any evidence to the contrary?    Naturally, as usual, TOO CHICKEN TO RESPOND.  TOOI CHICKEN TO ADDR4ESS THE FACTS that contradict all the improvements you claim have occurred in the city .

Just heard on the radio that Howe Caves is throwing their name/location in the hat for a casino.
after the flood, they said that they could use the economic boost.

Hadn't heard about the flood...how did I miss it.  Any articles about it?

Another good location would be the bankrupt/defunct Friar Tuck Inn in Catskills

LOL joebxr, the flood after Irene is the one being referenced.

Was there damage to Howe?  I was planning on visiting there this summer with friends so am wondering if there is damage and limited access, or anything.

Wasn't so much physical damage, but more of economic impact on the whole area at the time. Things still aren't right in Schoharie county. I'm pretty sure there's no problem getting to the caverns, so your visit would be welcome.

The Tobin Packing Company site in Albany was pulled from the table as a possible site for a casino. I would prefer that the new casino slated for the Capital Region be centrally located in an urban area -- so that leaves either the ALCO site in Schenectady or the one in Rensalaer near the train station as the most attractive and viable options.  All things being equal, I would rather have the development dollars and tourism dollars come to Schenectady County.

They were cousins (Steve and Ross).  Used to go there in mid-late 70's. Meals were great and real good entertainment.
Really sad that it went down the tubes...too bad. Ross treated me like a friend because he frequented a place I worked at
in Albany...we struck up a conversation and every time I visited after that I got the royal treatment.

Saratoga is still the front runner for the casino.   Forget Schenectady.   Won't be ready in time to be shovel ready.   Saratoga just has too many bullets in their gun.   Not only the obvious one of politics, but they can concede enough of what they choose to, to pacify the NIMBYS/business' downtown, and still get most of what the casino wants.   Incidently Saratoga has expanded their casino interests into Kentucky (Ellis Park) and Colorado(Saratoga at Black Hawk).

Have they changed their position?

Saratoga said 'no'....for now anyway.

I didn't realize that Saratoga Casino and Raceway and Saratoga Race Track were actually two different entities....
learn something new everyday.  Always thought it was just one.
