The Chamber of Schenectady County and the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation recommend people make reservations.

Restaurant week run through Sunday.

You jack people's taxes up too high, they can't afford to patronize some of these great places as much as they would like to. Really. The budget for dining out is usually the first thing to go.

they must be all patronized from Metroplex....wouldn't pay a dime to eat downtown.....

I just checked their menu.  Johnny's has 11 entrees under $15.  Their pricing is extraordinarily reasonable.

heard nothing but good things about johnny's. And I could be wrong here, but doesn't galesi own the building and johnny's rents from them? it's galesi that gets the tax break.....yes?

I was there a couple days ago...  With some friends from out of town who described the particular dish they had as the best version of that dish that they have ever had.

Plus the pricing is very very reasonable for the entrees...  And you're treated very warmly by everyone there, especially the manager.

Yes Galesi owns that building.

Note - I don't go raving about Villa Italia, because while their stuff is phenomenal...  The tax thing bothers me a bit.  I don't go there as often as I once did because of it...  I realize it's the same family, but again at Johnny's the food is phenomenal, with great prices, and nice people.  I just can't hold VI's tax situation against them there.  

If you rent space from a corporation that gets a big tax break, I'm assuming that you may be getting a break on the going rent, which would allow you to undercut your competitors on the prices. I don't know if that is the case in this instance, I'm not suggesting it is, but I do know that a non-government gin mill has objected to government support for its competitors in the past.
Another thing that should be pointed out - these tax breaks that go to businesses that are 'supported' by Proctor's, the lower the prices, the lower the 'return' seen by the taxpayers, not that there is any return, or if there was, that we would see it.

all the METROPLEX/GILLEN developments are not a 'tax benefit' for the home owners since these developments are tax exempt.

all the METROPLEX/GILLEN is concerned about is the 'sales tax' that is generated by these eateries/gin mills.

it is the sales tax that keeps the METROPLEX/GILLEN oiled.....that's what it's all about.

The thing is, they argue that the sales tax makes the giveaways worth it, then they fire the guy who says the city should be getting a bigger share relative to the county. Also does it make sense to increase sales tax to fund projects that supposedly benefit taxpayers through sales tax? They claim that they also create jobs, but that part is just lies.
