First....I don't think all cops are scum.....just the ones that break the same laws as the ones they arrest and incarcerate. And the ones who cover up/turn a blind eye to the scam.

second....none of the above can incarcerate anyone or hold them against their will.

cops can DESTROY anyone!!

And, for the record, I am no fan of Jeff Curtis. I think he is telling a revisionist version of history.  But, like all other criminals, once his sentence is completed he has the right to get on with his life just the same as everyone else.

that NEVER happens....unless one works or is a cog in the system that makes/upholds the 'civil rules'.....

there is no justice....ever....

a fallen 'soldier' is looked upon as 'too bad that happened'...the rest are just untold stories of 'who cares as long as they aren't
near me'....so to fix that, criminals get a free college education in NYS....

I'm not defending anyone here because to me all are the same but the system is not justified....not by a long shot.

the human when left 'alone' is just like the next human...the public school system/political system/religion puts folks into casts as

Well Cicero one day maybe you will have your utopias where people can use drugs freely.  Until then it's against the law.

Won't even waste any more time discussing anything with you - the only thing we need worry about is the evil government. Alcohol is not against the law.  I'm sorry that the world does not rotate the way you would like it to.

Wonder if all the people talking about the heroin epidemic think drug trafficking is victimless.

Kicking down doors due to pot plants.  Pick the most absurd situations to make your arguments.Typically when doors are broken down it is because of complaints by the neighbors about a drug house and all the issues it precipitates (prostitutes doing tricks in alleys, robberies, gun violence).

When you think of most crimes being committed because of drug activity would you agree that is a side effect of the black market that was created by making drugs illegal. How many are shot because one person is selling on another's turf or its a deal gone bad, that's all due to prohibition, its no different then the violence that ripped through the country when alcohol was prohibited, the gangs fought over who was going to run the black market. You also talk about prostitutes which again is a black market operation, the real danger there is the girls who have to go in those alleys because they have no place to go to be safe, if you look at how they do it in Nevada where they have legal brothels the dangers are all but eliminated. Throwing the girls in jail overnight is not helping them because they're on the street the next day, knowing that maybe the best route is to give them a safe place to do their business where they may have protection, brothels were common place in this country years ago and were only demonized because some thought it was immoral.

No, you and a select few on this forum are the ones that claim the higher standard label because of
the negative feelings about the profession.

People have negative feelings about certain professions based on real life actions committed by those groups.

Cops and priests are commonly given a bad reputation due to the far reaching effects of their inappropriate behaviors.

Just ask random people if they have ever been helped by a cop, or ever heard of anyone being helped by a cop.

It will be a very low percentage.

Ask the same question about the other professions that you listed and the percentages will be very much higher.

Just for the record, wife, husband, cousin and children are not professions. So I removed them from the list.

Next ask random people if they have, or anyone they know has had their lives altered in a positive or negative
manner in each of the professions.

Police have by far, the highest rate of changes in people's lives in a negative manner.

There are many reasons for this. Bad laws, criminal behavior,  arrogance, selective enforcement, nepotism, revenue generation,
and a general lack of respect for people's privacy and rights, etc.

And on the other hand, firefighters, doctors, teachers and EMT's affect people's lives in a positive manner much more often
than negatively.

The majority of people want cops to come when you call them and to be left alone when you are merely traveling.

The police want the opposite. They want to control and question all travel and not be bothered answering to BS calls
from the public. Perhaps not each individual cop, but the general appearance and actions of the collective profession
suggests that this is the case.

Other professions do not treat you as a suspect at each encounter.

Other professions are not waiting to pounce on you and take your money for driving over a line or any other BS
excuse they find to pull you over and scrutinize every detail of your answers, your paperwork or your vehicle condition,
looking for anything they can use against you.

Most people who interact with police do not feel the police is on their side. They know full well that it can go
sideways in a split second.

No other profession causes as much fear in people as interaction with police, even though you have committed no crime.

Backing up the Northway or the Thruway for miles to write a speeding ticket isn't a public service, it's a nuisance, and a
dangerous action that causes lots of damage and injuries daily.

If cops want people to not feel negative about them, let them earn a positive view of them by doing things that actually
help people, not things that generate revenue, fill prison factories with slave labor and ruining lives by the truckload
enforcing bad laws.

Gang violence, corruption and millions of destroyed lives.

Police deaths, civilian deaths, gun violence, all directly attributed to drug law enforcement.

No amount of drug addiction or abuse could possibly ever touch these numbers of destroyed lives caused by enforcement.

Cops lives as well as drug users/dealers lives are taken in incredible numbers.

Prohibition had the same exact outcome.

The difference is the government is a billion times more powerful today than during prohibition.

Self perpetuation of itself prohibits the government from making any changes that could reduce the death, violence
and record breaking prison populations that is so far ahead of the rest of the world it is hard to even comprehend the
vastness of the massive system and network resources needed to keep it all running.

We spend more on drug enforcement and incarceration than more than half the rest of the world combined.

And we have the worst results and the most dangerous society as a result.

Visitor,

You have it backwards, it is your utopian world that believes one day drugs will be eradicated from American society through more policing, more raids, and more mass incarceration.

People do use drugs, just not freely.  We can agree, for some people, drugs ruin their lives(like alcohol).  But in some strange use of logic, having a criminal record and spending years behind bars with murderers, rapists, and thieves doesn't have any adverse affects.

You're not going to comment on the Kazmarek redemption article?  You avoiding it?  Wasn't that my first alleged fallacious argument based on a falsehood?  Now it's a straw man?  You are the one that threw out the straw man claiming I said I wanted a "utopia where people use drugs freely".  It's not good style to call fallacy after using a fallacy.

Didn't see the Kaczmarek story - again, not a fan.  And, while it's wrong what both did - it was exponentially worse for Kaczmarek because of his position.

...But I'm not supposed to pass judgement on an institution that is charged with enforcing the law, but aren't able to identify the corrupt law breakers they play grab a** with in the police station locker room.  Internal affairs is a waste of money.
